Complete speculation. BA has made no secret he wants to come back to the NRL so the next coach to get the axe has the potential for BA to replace them.
Firstly, who cares...
But secondly, both AOB and BA know that NRL coaching is a cutthroat business. You're only employed until you're not. There would be no issues if one of them replaced the other and just like BA at the Eels Newcastle's results are trending down under AOB lately so it's definitely time to move him on.
I see zero ethical issues with it. If I was going to get "managed out" I'd be stoked if one of my mates and former mentors got my old job. Better it goes to someone I like and respect than someone I don't.
