BA captain's run presser

So from the press conference this morning i'll run down basic takes of what was said

*Arthur was asked about last week and if it was a wake up call for next few weeks, Arthur said it wasn't a wake up call we were just looking too far ahead. The effort was there but didnt execute well, (though he did say the effort was there but the effort in attack could have been better which is a tad confusing if you ask me, i know he is saying that the effort was there but still can be better, but why say it was there just say you want it to be better than what it was instead sugar coating it)

*Asked if Moses would make a difference, Arthur irriterated that we had 28 points scored on us and Mitchell wouldn't change that but may help with executing better. Said that we are getting to the line well just our effort getting over it is lacking and need to be better.

*Asked if tomorrow night is more about building confidence and beating big teams as oppose to getting the 2 points which is what you want also? Arthur replied that 2 points is what you want each week but it is not about confidence more so playing the way we want to play and not letting other sides bully us into playing a way we are not comfortable with, more focused on playing the way we want to and do it for a full 80 minutes. He stated that we have been good at playing our own game, though last few weeks we have been put under pressure and played a different way that doesn't work for us.

*Asked about how the players having family with them is helping, he replied that it makes life easier. When a player has family around them they can stay focused and that helps moving forward

*Asked about RCG, Arthur said his groin is an issue and wasn't expecting to have til minimum first week of finals.

*Asked if the last 3-4 years if they learnt how to improve based on semis exits, Arthur replied that they werent going to apologise for starting the season well as if they didn't they would be in trouble for that. Pretty much saying they worked and planned to be in a good position at the end of the year and their start did that for them and we are in control of what happens in semis. He said we've learnt things but we learn things through experience and time. Saying we learnt last week we can go into a game and dip our toes in we have to go into a game and start hard and fast as that's what works for us, we have to go out and make a statement early.

*Asked about Mitchell moses pressure of fixing our attack, how will he handle the pressure, Arthur replied that he doesn't need to fix it just do his and job and his strength is his kicking game so he needs to kick well and turn the ball over on our terms. Pressure is more on the whole group, to provide opportunities. All well and good having Moses back but if we arent moving forward and creating chances through better effort like the last few weeks than Mitchell is not going to do much. If we front load our effort Mitchell may see a few more opportunities

*Asked how the players recieved the mentioning of them playing dumb football, Arthur said they know what works for them and dumb footy was from forcing plays (which is right), but said it was dumb cause we didn't front load effort and the effort was reactionary and the decisions were dumb on the back of them. we wasted opportunities and dumb plays were based on frustration, everyone was trying to get things done themselves it doesn't work in a team sport we need everyone pulling together we cant have 17 blokes doing it themselves we need 17 doing it together.

What do we think? some things he says are right, though they are things we've noticed ages ago. And going from effort was there last week to now that it was there but not there in attack is a change in view he may have gathered in re-watching film, but not sure how you can say effort was there but didn't have enough effort in attack, maybe say effort was there in defence but then again couldn't say that either. So not sure what to think of that.

  • I dont read much into Captain Runs - Press Conferences. The coaches don't really want to say much incase they give away any plans. They will always just be very general. Post match conferenes give more detail but still general. I don't care too much about the words but more the actions of our team. We will know when we play tomorrow.

    • You are right EA, only presser that is fascinating is post match but just a bit confused by this presser. However, tomorrow night we will soon see if it was all by plan or not.

I would love it to work out for Arthur and the team and if there is to be an upset in the 4 big games it will be this one i reckon.

  • He said what he had too.

The thing is BA can coach that's not in doubt its his ability to turn things around that's questionable

Hes just been here long enough and it's time for a change.

    • Well he turned it around in 2018, but yeah it is different to getting us from last to top 8, it's now top 8 to premiers.

  • 6 minutes 24 seconds of viewing that you can't get back in your life.

Drivel, pure drivel said at nauseam.

    • I like listening it to it from time to time, even if nothing worth while is said it can sometimes get me to expect what is to come or what he is thinking heading into tomorrow.

  • I've never heard Bellamy, Bennett or Robinson use the term 'front load our effort'. How about some tactical coaching, instead of just tucking it under your arm and running hard?

    • What about "the effort was there"? Have we heard that before?
