Atkins-Average player

First off this is not a thread to hack on or say how crap a player is , its just my opinions on Atkins. Of the games that hes made into the top grade, he seems very average at best.
1. Hasnt gotten a spot in 1st grade much, their backline isnt the most impressive
2. Out of all the backline besides steve michael he is the least average player they have in the backline

After watching the first half of tonights game verse the warriors, he has made a few average runs, one fumble and regather in goal, one knock back to toopi's try and a few average tackles. I just think he has been pretty average out of all the backline he and michaels would be the last two players i would wanna chase.
I am not saying he wont be a good buy but if we are going to chase him then it should be for the RIGHT dollars, he should sign him on the wage he is worth not what we think he will be like or what others will pay.
We the eels in the past(mortimer) have payed big dollars for players that other teams want and not the right dollars we wanna pay. Hopefully after the release of inu and mateo they may be realising that we should offer players their worth not their potential or what other teams will pay.
The signing of webb and matua makes me think we may be realizing that we do this too often, we seem to have gotten these players on our own terms, payed what we wanted and maybe (being unwanted) they will perform and be worth the dollars.

  • I think the intention of signing him is once again purely for depth.
In fact, he's probably even there for cover as Grothe should he get injured again during the course of the year.
  • Didn't we sign him already?
  • tonite he came off the wing so manyyyy times...
  • Pretty much yes.
  • i dont mind him as a depth signing but as i said for the right price, i believe their are better wingers out their and we shouldnt be spending big $$ on wingers we should be focusing on getting our 9,6 and 7 right before we go anywhere else. Look at titans verse warriors the only diferent was scott prince and the class he has, they havent been int he comp for long but thought smart and got a good half looks like they couldnt be holding the trophy before us.

yes he came off the wing a few times and see him get smashed by manu vateveu, what a run.
  • Most wingers would have been smashed by the Beast in that instance though so it makes sense.
  • 2. Out of all the backline besides steve michael he is the "least average player" they have in the backline.

are you saying hes good or am misreading ?

he is a sizable lad buti dont think hes been bought as cover as grothe. we have a couple large outside backs at wentworthville and under 20's. he maybe viewed as an alternative in the centres. i thought his tries to games ratio was better though. had some injuries that though that have stopped his momentum at titans and gone to the back of the queue it would seem.

    Height : 189 cm
    Weight : 96 kg
    Position : Centre / Wing
    28 games for 8 tries
  • yeh sorry is the most average, just think we shouldnt be looking at wing spots, we should be looking at 9,7 and 6. look at all the teams in the finals and the ones going great guns have spend good money on a half or 5/8. titans with prince, roosters with carney and pearce.
his scoring rate as a winger isnt very good you posted 8 trys in 28 games is crap. how many games this year has he played in first grade? if he hasnt played many and cant get into the backline of the titans then why do we need him.

I think we should stick with our wingers, as said we have many young players that can step up if necessary to play on the wing, we should be focusing on the half,5/8 or hooker.
  • yeah but what for, we have j wright and we have loko and etu. Its just a waste of our cap. Seems like we are shopping through the reject shop and getting two dollar bargains we don't need.
  • Who knows really?
That is a question that only DA, Ozzie and the board would know.
He wouldn't command much in the long-run so I guess it's alright in some ways.

So if that's the thought process, Warriors deserve it too."
