We probably are gone for the season! Most likely we are gone!

However where there is hope and a chance do not give up.

Not some 1 eyed pipe dream but a serious look at the ladder and the draw.

last night after the game I like many others vented my frustrations and pointed out who in our team is not up to it and who I thought will never make it.
THAT IS WRONG! while understandable to do this let's leave it to the end of the season to make the big statements as to who should go and who is not up to it.

Ask yourself what has to happen for the Eels to make the 8:-

Look at the ladder and the draw:-

5 Teams are either there already or only need 1 win out of their last 4 - 5 games.

The first 5 teams in the 8 will be (not in order) Dragons, Roosters, Panthers, Titans, West Tigers, thats because with one more win 30 points is their total and the Eels have a -70 PD

The Eels need to take a finals spot away from either: Broncos, Sea Eagles, Warriors.
To make the 8 this is what we need:

1: We have to win all 4 games left and finnish on 30

2:Broncos must only win 1 more, they have: Eels, Knights away, Warriors away, Raiders so the critical game is the Knights away, because they most likely will beat raiders at home and we Have to beat them: Conclusion Unlikely that the Broncos will only win 1 so they probably will make it to 30

3:Sea eagles must only win 2 more games, they have:Storm;Dragons away;Warriors;Roosters away;Dogs. The critical games are Storm & Warriors because they will most likely beat the dogs at home and lose to Roosters away and Dragons Away (even though they do play well against the Dragons. If the Sea eagles lose one of those home games Storm, Warriors then they most likely finnish on 28: WE HAVE A CHANCE HERE.

4: Warriors must only win 2 more games, they have:Sharks away; Knights;Sea Eagles away; Broncos;Eels away. The critical games are their away games because they probably win their home games, so Sharks, Sea Eagles games are the ones to watch because the Eels will beat them at home in the last game. Conclusion 50 - 50 they could end up on 28 or 30.

I think our best chance is taking the spot in the 8 from the Manly Sea Eagles! And that would be the sweetest thing!

Once we are in the 8 it is a whole new comp!

  • Interesting analysis MB.
We should still never give up hope though.
The Sea Eagles have looked a bit flat at times, so hopefully they can lose the majority of those games :P
  • Oh just a thought, we all have to Support the STORM this afternoon!!!! Yes Eels fans we must cheer for the Storm against manly, just remember the old saying......."I support Parra and anyone who is playing Manly"
  • I agree Bob, finals spot now harder to grab but I think the last 3 games are very do able, against tigers souths and warriors. Next Friday will be the toughest one. If we can get over the broncos then we can definitely stil grab 7th or 8th. Despite our F and A 30 points should be enough. I'm still hopeful.
  • To have any chance at the 8 we need to win all remaining games by massive margins.
    VERY massive margins.
  • Not sure I gave my approval for usage of these phrases ????
  • Just one question....Where do the bunnies figure in your calculations?
  • Hi Sbbb,
Just home after a great night out and dinner, didn't know the NRL results. Ok good question, I did not consider the Bunnies as any chance as they had 7 first graders out i thought they were gone for the year. Just checked NRl.com and see they have had a win over the Tigers and now lead us. So I am going to look at the draw for them now. However todays results are BAD for Eels as Manly won and Warriors beat the Eels reserve grade side. We can't cut a break at the moment, bugger its just not falling our way.
Ok Bunnies have Storm away; Panthers away; Eels At ANZ, St George away. So if the Eels do their part and win all their games and home teams generally win the Bunnies are finishing on 24 points and out of it.
  • Actually Colin if we rule out PD as any chance of determining a spot in the 8 because its just so poor for us we know that the boys need to win all 4 remaining games to finnish on 30 points to qualify and either Broncos, Manly or Warriors or Souths need to have 28 points or less. So I see it as manly need to lose all their away games and lose the warriors game they finnish on 28. Or the warriors need to lose the game against the Broncos assuming they win their other home games and lose away. they finnish on 28. I still see these as our only chances. Yes its a lot of this has to happen and that has to happen however its not impossible: we win our 4 games and Manly or Warriors need to lose one at home and we are there regardless of margins
  • Oh bugger you noticed that didn't you, Just don't point that Magnum at me unless its an Almond coated magnum
  • Yeah, from now on
