Arthur spared the axe.

James Phelps.Brad Arthur's coaching job is safe.Fresh from a win that could spare Parramatta from the wooden spoon, we can reveal Arthur will survive beyond 2018.But others won't.The coach has been given the go-ahead to clean out his football department and no one is safe.In other news, Michael Jennings looks set to pay the price for the Eels year from hell with the former NSW centre being shopped around to rival clubs.

  • Oh thats not good news
  • His recruitment is already smelly.  LANE looks like Evans mark 2 and I am not convinced that Junior is our answer to returning to the top 8. The review might show he was undermanned and not equipped to be competing in 2018 , but it wont be able to defend the terrible attack and block plays that has been his trademark since 2016.

Cant see I am excited about 2019.

    • If hes still coach im considering not renewing my membership

          • I think if B.A continues on we will see a lot of membership being canceled. Possible even a sponsorship deal or two cancelled as well.

            • Haha Mack...nice.

I'm OK with this decision...sort of.

Whilst Brad has shown some weaknesses in his coaching, I believe he would have learnt a great deal this year and is largely still a rookie.

I also didn't want to sign a new coach and be paying BA big coin whilst having nothing to do with the club and paying the new coach big money. Also, cutting contracts isn't smart business, long term. Good coaches watching on would be reluctant to sign with us if all coaches get the chop before their contract is even finished. Similarly players.

It's his final year on his current contract. Give him everything he needs and if he fails then see ya. I actually believe that he may make amends next season.

              • This . Agree 100% Grunta

              • Agree Grunta , unless we are signing a credible top tier coach I don’t see the point in sacking this bloke and paying him and some other niff nuff to do a similar job .  Ride out the off season and then be well on the market for someone decent .

There’s literally nobody worth signing , I sure as hell don’t want Hasler for the next 3 years.

              • Grunta, good post, and agree especially with the sacking of a coach before his time is up. Quality coaches would baulk at signing unless some iron clad agreement was in the deal regarding his tenure and compensation if terminated early, no matter why, in many ways we have been spoilt by so many post Smith coaches including him pulling the plug while still under contract and they cop the financial loss as a consequence.

This year has certainly been the worst under BA and sure he should have seen some warning signs and tried to remedy the issues, thing is though when we look at the playing roster they have in most aspects underperformed.

In saying that how did Bennet go at the knights and there's the top coach going from a grand final winner to a cellar dweller on big money while there, and reality is he left that side in a bigger mess than before he got there. 2016 and 2017 the team probably over achieved but this year has not been great even though for the majority of the season, despite losing games we have been competitive, poor on field decisions, and refusing to take a shot at goal with penalties cost us games.

I would suggest that BA had a heck of a lot of restrictions on him and who he could sign both as coaches and support staff, along players for this season, & I also believe that restrictions were on him owing to the clubs finances, the aspect that last year we did not have a sponsor would not have helped either.

Aside from Max's government appointed position, Bernie Gurr who should have been a good appointment really showed how far out of touch with the modern game in the NRL to when he departed last century, and is likely still catching up with it, but he too would have likely had restrictions on him salary wise.

The three new signings will help the side a lot, but more needs to be done with getting perhaps two more big signings, they don't have to be names though, rather quality players who are ready to play 80 minutes of solid football each time they run on the paddock.

BA and whoever is coach into the future needs close associates who have RL credibility who can work with him and the team, in improving the way we play. Thing they have to ensure is that players that they sign are ones that want to play for the club, team mates, supporters and all that's associated with the club.  Identify issues that a player had at their previous club and ensure they do not bring it with them.

The aspect that we go into next year with new players, a new future with the whole of the RL department and to play at a new stadium should be the start of a new and positive future.

                • I think moving forward BA will have to stay, however, I think another coach would be happy with the handful of players left after the 2019!season spend big and players that he needs.

                  • End of this year out of those off contract, I would say 6 will definitely be gone, the aspect that the coach has also said some on contract will not be at the club, or their positions on the line.

End of 2019 a minimum of four off contract players would be shown the door I would say.  That would give the likelihood of 10 new players at least following BA's current contract, gives him new blood in the team next year and to build on that into the future.
