Sounds like nit-picking, but we have always been bent over big time by the salary cap auditors with a fine tooth comb.

"None of the players were refused alcohol throughout the night or asked to leave and most poured themselves into taxis at closing time, armed with Cabcharge cards provided by the club's football manager"

* Why does a bloke earning a six figure salary need a cab fare paid for?

  • I would have thought that each club has a certain amount they can pay on stuff like this not out of the cap, in this case its for the welfare of their players, id have thought they encourage the clubs to give out cab charge's to the players when it comes to official club functions, im sure we do the same, but interesting question none the less.

    • We should have given Nathan Peats an open Cabcharge card when his car was repossessed for salary cap reasons to get to training from La Perouse to Parramatta each day.

Don't give a player a car that falls under the salary cap..... just an open Cabcharge card, salary cap exempt. Just don't register the card in the clubs name.

Just another small example how the salary cap is a complete farce and can be manipulated and rorted until a whistle blower comes forward.

Where does it stop? Cabcharge, Fuel cards, Coles cards, Restaurant vouchers, Clothes vouchers, Harvey Norman vouchers?... get enough "cards & vouchers"" and you wouldn't have to spend a cent of your contract money.

I'm sure Uncle Nick has all bases covered.

    • What about Uber?
  • You had me worried there... I thought it was another birthday cake like fui lol
  • Handing out Cabcharge cards to those who attend work sanctioned parties is pretty common at most workplaces nowadays. It absolved the workplace of responsibility when their idiot employees decide to get behind the wheel drunk or walk around the streets drunk. It means as an organisation they can say they've done their due diligence.

And I doubt this would hit the cap in the same way that training gear, uniforms, travel allowances for interstate travel etc also wouldn't hit the cap. They're just operational expenses that all organisations incur. It's when you go "above and beyond" that questions are raised (cars, boats, wads of cash, holidays etc).
