Does anyone else feel like a win/loss this weekend will dictate our season.

Personally, I think a win here would be massive. It would put us as 3-2 with a fairly soft draw. This would be a great result considering the teams we have versed, and would put us in the early finals picture

Conversely, I think a loss will be dire. I'm not too sure why to be honest, I just feel like it will put to sleep any finals run aspirations despite how early in the year it is.

            • Yep they said they have changed their junior development under JR all the way down from HM. So realistically we won't see if it has actually worked for another couple years

              • Do you think Mitch Lewis should be sacked immediately?

They have only lost 1 game (flogged), had a draw against the worst team and yet their wins have been pretty good ones.

Is there too much chopping and changing just because of the number of decent players available?

                • Nah they made the GF last year. Should have won but choked at the end. So he shouldn't be sacked.

There has been a lot of chopping and changing largely due to injuries. Lots of injuries right now so I can't see them winning the comp

                  • Is Lewis a potential higher grade coach or is he better suited to juniors?

Also, should/are we be preparing potential NRL coaches through pathways like this as well?

                    • Too hard to tell and I am probably not the best person to answer that. I look more at the players than coaching

          • Whilst I appreciate your comments EA and yours as well JC, there can be different ways of approaching things with a philosophical view.

The development and coaching that you espouse is arguably correct and an improvement but "very lateral thinking" and approaches can still be made. This can apply to all sorts of breakthroughs in something that is not restricted to just the human race but across animal sports and the like as well. Some places and countries can develop different tangents.

When I was a kid and playing all sorts of sports i.e. Soccer, League, Union, Australian Rules and Cricket..... all before I was 15. This was done through pure enjoyment, and of course we didn't have all the electronic alternatives and contracts offered to 12 to 14 year olds.

I not being stupid overheard people talk about different skils and without being exceptional we were across different codes and it was a result of crossing over through those codes through circumstances, I learnt to kick with both feet, catch one handed, spin the ball both ways and develop reflexes and a different understanding of coaches in the different sports. Don't get me wrong, I was no exceptional athlete but I was handy enough in any sport due the experience of different skills.

Kids to day would spend more time on a playstation, watching TV, talking on mobile phones etc that were never available to me or my peers. Let's the not go down the political correctness route that kids today are saturated with as well. In saying this it amazes me how poorly to this day how catching and passing skills as basic as any still are awkwardly and clumsily executed by even First Grade Players in NRL.

So my point out of this "epistle" is that cross cultural development from else where, Country, both Domestic and International is potentially something we should not ignore because we cannot possibly have the same physical development that some others have, not withstanding those same people not having the advantages that our children of today have.

A small aside it would be interesting to see how much pride and loyalty you could develop from these sources if the process is handled correctly.

I am interested in seeing the Broncos are setting up and ESL side, I wonder if the excess of the juniors they have is not creating an opportunity for them to "park" young players, combined with experienced ones into a competition we dismiss for reasons of them just not being good enough "yet".

  • I think most likely we'll lose but we'll be fine. For team like us, battling to sneak into the 8, no one game is make or break till the end. Teams like us are inconsistent, it's part of it.

So no, I don't feel its make or break.

  • Nah we broken

  • The biggest worry right now is that our forward pack is our biggest weakness. But it is not getting any stronger unless we sign someone. Hopgood and Doorey out for the season and no one on the injury list that is coming back.

    • We have to hope that Guymer, Moretti, Brown, Tuivita, Kautoga go up many levels during the season. Hopefully Paulo has a similar season to last year where he gets better as the season goes on

Not saying I wouldn't want them, I would, but temper expectations as there is a reason these players aren't wanted by their clubs."
