Ando Denies Hayne Drama

Daniel Anderson denies rift with Parramatta star Jarryd HayneBy Phil RothfieldJune 28, 2010 Parramatta coach Daniel Anderson denies there is a major issue with his champion fullback."I spoke to Haynesy this morning (at recovery) about him being the most important attacking member of our side and how we can go forward as a team and score some points," Anderson said on Sunday night. But does the struggling Eels coach regret commenting on Hayne and singling him out after the loss to the Broncos? "Look, it was just part of my game assessment," he said,"Haynesy is the player most likely in our team to create something. "I'm working with him to try to get the best out of him for all of us. We'll do video and I'll have a chat with him again tomorrow. I had a chat with him last week. "Basically, our halves are struggling as well. Jarryd's a pretty level-headed bloke and he feels responsible to kick-start our attack. "I personally feel he's best off the back of someone else instead of being a first receiver type of player. "I'd rather him second receiver but if the halves are spluttering a bit it can put pressure on him and sometimes he feels a bit responsible. "I'm trying to get the best out of the halves and him. At first receiver he gets too many numbers on him." Anderson said the mood among his players was still positive enough to suggest the season was anything but a write-off. "We're working very honestly for each other in defence," he said, "That part of our game has been outstanding but it saps your morale when you can't score points. "You feel cheated at the end of the game because you've defended well and kept the opposition to six or to 10. In the modern game, that sort of defence usually wins football games."Confidence is down but the mood's good."http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,...018866,00.html

  • For those doubting Ando read above.

He knows the situation we are in and is obviously trying to fix it, he also recognises that the halves are playing shit. Further gives me confidence we are going to go hammer and tongs for Cronk.
  • If he knows the freaking situation, why did he drop Keating - as I said as soon as I learnt of the team changes we were screwed. Mortimer does not create space for Hayne. Keating is the only first receiver who has created space for Hayne.

When you have a halfback who is not pressuring the defence, nothing else works.
    • Hmm I never seen 1eyed a little fustrated in his comments until now. Must be bad times ahead for our team me thinks.
    • hear what your saying 1eyed

Could it be in response to KK leaving for the dogs?? Is Ando trying to get a Humble/Morts/Hayne combo going so we have some stability and experience there incase the Cronk idea falls through?
    • Phil, you touched on something in commenting on the Knights game. You mentioned that, for some reason, we diverged from the tactics employed so successfully against the Storm. Is it possible that KK did not follow the coach's instructions against the Knights and as such was benched by DA as a form of punishment??

I'm speculating, but after watching Paul Roos blow up deluxe this weekend after his players didn't follow instructions, it could be a possibility. Similarly, DA may very well have come to the conclusion that neither Morts or KK are able to 'work' as a halves solution in the short term and has decided to stick with the cheaper option in Humble - then go all out for Cronk.

I'm not trying to be an apologist, rather, suggest some possible reasons why we've gone down this particular path...
  • Kris' ability to follow a gameplan is not a strength I will give you that. But that's one thing that is coachable. Kris would have been my halfback since the trials. We would have now had a good four months to get that side of his game entrenched.

In retrospect, the biggest mistake we made was to think that two young halves would be able to pull of a dual-half strategy where neither of them really knows who should be getting the ball, all-the-time behind a non-specialist hooker. I will admit I liked the idea of what Anderson was trying to achieve, but it didn't work. His selections on the weekend acknowledged that but it didn't acknowledge that Mortimer isn't a strong enough half to play as a solo half either. I'm in the middle of a very looong blog where I'm going to go into a lot of detail about how I think the team has to be structured.
    • I think they need to go back to MK at 9, Robson at 7, Morts at 6 and have KK on the bench to add some spark to the dummy half role late in the half. Robson has added little spark at 9, but at 7 he gave us direction and allowed Morts to follow the play around. Morts will come good, but a few years at 6 will help his game.
      • Might not hurt to flick back to what took us there last year.

I wasn't a big fan of it but right now we are f_cked!!!!!!!!!! So flick the switch DA.

I am sick of sitting here trying to come up with, "The Masterplan". That should have already been figured out and right now we should be just competing and trying to get better and better.

        Defence = Awesome

Attack = ?????????????????? Do we have one......................

IF we get it right we are a chance but fark that is A BIG IF.............

We are running out of time. Another loss this week and we are in DEEP S^%T.

The Warriors over there without Hayne and Hindy (If picked) is a BIG ASK.
  • Until Parra sort their dramas out with their halves and find another option at 9 apart from Robson, i think the issue will continue with Hayne trying too hard. I'd rather Hayne be guilty of trying too hard than not at all.
