Anderson's head on the block

Daniel Anderson looks long odds to be coaching the Eels in 2011 with the board and administration expected to make a decision on the Parramatta coaching position in the next week or so.

This morning, radio host Ray Hadley said that Anderson would not be at the club next year and 1Eyed Eel sources have indicated that key players have been told there likely will be changes for next season.

Speaking to 1Eyed Eel member Tony Bongo, Parramatta chairman Ray Spagnolo denied Hadley's claim that Reni Maitua had been signed at the behest of the board and also indicated that legal action could result from the segment. Click here to read Tony's comments.

Sources close to the board have indicated that Anderson's future will be decided during the annual review, a process that they are keen to embark on sooner rather than later. One of my trusted sources close to the playing roster, has indicated to me that some players have already been spoken to about the coaching situation for 2011 and indications are that there will be a change in coach next year.

Certainly, all activity in the past week would suggest that Anderson has lost the faith of the board after failing to make the finals with the pre-season favourites. Spagnolo has in recent weeks refused to guarantee the coaches position, having earlier assured supporters there would be no change. And CEO Paul Osborne and the board have openly distanced themselves from decisions made during the season, which many fans at least partially attribute for the club's poor performance.

It is public knowledge that the club has already sounded out Melbourne assistant coach Stephen Kearney while former Roosters and Shark coach Ricky Stuart is known to have a close bond with Osborne.

  • Good bye Mr Anderson.

Its unfortunate our year had to end like this.
  • If Ricky Stuart ends up as coach I am totally done. He has proved he has nothing at all to offer as a coach.
And I am not to keen on Mr Kearney either. Peoplehas been talking him up he is a world beater with his world cup win.
But wasn't Wayne Bennet his "Assistant" ??
  • It seems like DA has cleared out who he didnt want in the team so you would think he deserves to see out his final season. I personally still believe he can do the job.
  • DA is the man for the job. So he has used the broom for the first time in a long time at our club and seems like the board doesnt like it.

The board should step back and let him do what he is paid to do. Newcastle hated Brian Smith for clearing out some players, then they made the finals and everyone loved him.

The bloke can coach. His records show that. Who else do we bring in?? Kearney?? has no first grade coaching experience. Stuart?? just because he is a mate of Spags and Ozzy. I would give Jason Taylor a crack well before these two. And really thats about it in coaches available.

He deserves to see out his contract. I like he speaks his mind, seems like a lot of people want to protect our "princess" players.
  • I think DA was bought in to do a job under Fitzgerald and that was to clear out the deadwood and I think he has started to do that in the last few months. I understand our recruitment hasn't been great but at the moment whose fault is that. I think DA will become a victim of the new board. I feel sorry for him he spent years underneath brian smith in the lower grades at parra learning from one of the best. he is a local boy he has history with parra and now he is being treated badly. i feel sorry for him that some players didn't play their best for him, they were lazy and he will be the one who gets the bullet. I think he deserves better.
  • naa naa naa naaaa naaa naaa naaa na hey hey hey goodbye!
  • Bloody hell our club is giving me shits at present.
  • I spoke to one player last Wednesday at the presentation night and when I mentioned the 1st half in the game with the rabbits and how poorly the play was he said "don't get me started, stupid game plan", so it seems that players were not too happy with the game plan for the clash and game plans are usually the coaches responsibility so it wouldn't surprise me if he was on the chopping block.
  • If Daniel Anderson is not coach next year i will not be renewing my membership
our club is a total rabble
for a group that was voted in to bring passion and pride back to our club
they have done the complete opposite

    Well Done
  • But also the players have admitted they have gone off the game plan themselves and stuffed it up. Just because something doesnt work in the first 5 minutes doesnt mean its not going too.

"I mean Newcastle want Young but have no cash, apparently they had no money even with letting KPP go. For us, makes no sense to get him now unless Brown goes early.
Ideally, i would just want to get him for 2026."
