It appears this years NRL competition at this stage is turning into a 2 Sided Comp! The Have & Have Nots. Broncos, Bulldogs, Manly, Dragons, Sharks, Tigers, Cowboys, and Co are in 1 Competition and Penrith, Eels, Storm, Rabbits Roosters and Co in another and I tend to think the gap between the two groups just might widen. I don't know if the new rules are causing this shift or poor coaching or something else but some games are so one sided its ridiculous and I don't think its a true reflection of the game. I just hope it improves as the season progresses.

The main reason is bad management, a few years ago we were one of the have nots but turned it around by firstly getting our board in order, then the front office. Poor recruitment, retention and development are the 3 common denominators in all the have not clubs.
There is only one solution, get better.
Absolutely.
Have a look at how long its taken the Eels to get out of the cellar, basically the best part of a decade. If you're not going to develop then you've got to buy, which means overs. If you do it that way, you're a one in ten chance at best of it coming off.
3 seasons
Agree HKF, totally bad Cap/Roster Management.
The teams at the bottom get itchy feet and make ridiculous plays for players that aren't worth it.
There is a need to be patient and pick off the players that present as good value for money and build a squad around that.
Every club has a different approach in the way they identify and pursue certain talent, it's clearly obvious that the Cowboys, Sea Eagles and Bulldogs have spent their money very poorly in the last few seasons.

But you've also got to have a plan for the next crop coming through.
I think back to SL when Fitzy brought over the Canterbury Four, Adam Ritson, Aaron Raper, Peter Johnstone, Nathan Barnes & Gary Freeman, then Brian Smith added John Simon, brought Jason Bell & Dave Penna home, but we didn't stand pat, he then worked on the next generation in the Cayless brothers, the Hindmarsh brothers, Mick Vella, Andrew Ryan, Luke Burt, Michael Hodgson, EGJ, PJ Marsh, Jamie Lyon, David Vaeliki, Brett Hodgson etc.
Teams like the Bulldogs & the Titans are buying like crazy at the moment, but that isn't sustainable.
HKF you're spot on. It's not a coincidence that after fixing our front office our on field performances have also improved. It's happened at Souths too. I watch the really bad decisions being made at the Tigers, Dogs, Dragons etc and you can point immediately to a fractured management / front office. The Tigers paid $700k for Joey Leilua! Case in point.
Recruiting is easier for the teams at the top as players are more likely to join a successful club.
The challenge Parramatta is to stay it that top 4 position. We're currently very attractive to good players and that's the difference between the top clubs and the bottom end.
The wests tigers for example are an unattractive destination, they having to pay overs thus expending their cap quickly, the dogs have paid massive overs for Cotric and co.
Its extremely difficult to make the jump into the big leagues and on that front you'd have to say that Arthur has done a very very good job.
Just to add to what a lot of other people have already said, a coach that can bring the best out of a player goes a long way. I know how much flak BA cops on here, but look at the people he has brought into this club and who have performed. He has attracted rejects, and turned them into proper first graders. A lot of the lower end teams are in the same predicament we were in 5 to 10 years ago, paying overs for under performers. Look at Dogs 800k for Cotric, playing in the centre as one example. The only team in recent memory who have signed big and benefited of it, are Titans so far, but in saying that, they also built a foundation before bringing in Fifita, and Tino Fa'asuamaleaui. Hopefully that new kid from Cowboys can have a crack for us soon (if he is allowed to come 2021).
The new kid from the cowboys is already here. He was on social media with Dylan Brown.
more of a 3 sided comp
penrith parra storm and rabbits fighting for positions in top four
raiders, roosters(no halves), titans, warriors, sharks fighting for top 8 or positions in top8
the rest fighting to avoid the wooden spoon.
i think parra are in a extremely good position this year, penrith are gona struggle to replicate the same efforts as last year on a weekly basis, storm have weaknesses on the edge and are missing smith, roosters have lost there cheif halves combo, raiders are struggling with the new pace and our forward pack is stronger then rabbits.
