After decades of false dawns, we Parra fans guard our optomism and dare not make bold predictions or elevate our expectations too high until we see absolute proof.

At 53 I've finally learned how to survive as a Parra fan and for anyone feeling shitty today this is for you.

The kindest thing you can do for yourself is to give most of your thoughts, attention and energy to things you can actually influence, instead of things you can only worry & be concerned about but have no influence over.

For example....I can't influence the flight of the footy as it sails wide of the goal posts after the siren, I can't influence Waqa Blakes urges to rush in and leak tries...I can't infleunce that someone refuses to agree with me about team selections.

Instead of getting so focused on these things, give more attention to the things you can actually influence

For example.....I can control how much negativity I absorb after a loss, I can control what I do for the first hour immediately after a loss, I can control how I explain a loss to myself.

Read or watch the Stephen Covey teaching on "Circle of Concern vs Circle of Influence"

Circle of Concern vs Circle of Influence

If you're tired of spending the next 48 hours after a loss with the shits give it a go...Brissy this is for you brother.

Peace

  • Amen to all that.
I'm definitely not myself after a loss that should not have happened so I just distract myself for an hour or so. Switch the TV to something else, read a book, turn off the social media. I know I need to calm down and let it wash away. I may vent on 1Eyed to get it out but not for long.
The sun still comes up the next day.
Don't cling too tight Eels fans. We're not a realistic chance of winning it this year however the club is aware of the need for constant improvement. The powers that be will be making sure we have the best chance to take the next steps. Don't overthink it.

    • Well said Muttman.... and if all else fails watch the Tigers doco that'll give you a giggle.

We have some sensible and astute ppl at the club who know a premiership is what we all crave - I put my faith in those ppl to act in good faith - what more can I do?

  • 👍

  • I agree totally that we should put our energy into things you can control and I try to do exactly that but that empty feeling doesn't go away after a loss. It sits in the back of my mind, popping up at different time throughout the day and brings the mood crashing down for a moment. As much as we can try to let it go the fact is we are Eels fans and this feeling seems to be our lot in life.

I love the Eels and always will and that's what makes it worse ( LOVE ME BACK EELS )

    • Coach Jim I feel you brother. When you love something so much as all all do love the Eels and you feel let down it hurts. So long as that hurt isn't interfering with other aspects of your life and yoyr relationship with other people that's ok mate.

As Muttman said, our club is in the hands of good people (finally) who want exactly what we want. hang in brother

  • After the Parra loss I switched over to the Olyroos game and felt 200% better. Good call out Embers!

    • I missed the Olyroos what happened

      • We beat Argentina 2-0. Awesome!

  • I used to go to bed after a loss and spend half the night awake trying to analyse where it went wrong and what we should do to fix it. Then I realised that it didn't matter what I thought as I can't change anything as a fan anyway.

Since then I have tried to focus only on the positives. Remember that in any situation there is usually something positive to take out of that. Last night we had some players who played very well, and as a team we managed to finally (near the end of the game) get around the opposition tactics of being in our face in defense. Something that the team will no doubt work on in coming weeks. And we are still in the top 4. We now know that we will need to step up coming into the finals, so this is an opportunity now to work on improving things against top 6 oppostion in coming weeks.

    • Good on you Longfin, not easy to do but a healthy perspective helps, doesn't mean you're head is in the sand either.

"People will still complain because they will have more away games against better teams compared to other teams or different turn around times.
I think a shorter season and stand alone rep period is the best option and over due though."
