He actually wasn't that bad a player. Bit of a show pony , he wasn't dissimilar to the younger Gutherson with the blonde dyed hair tips and the flamboyance. I've always thought he was lucky to have gotten away without a match fixing investigation. I reckon Brian Smith had his suspicions. I've seen him years ago in Angourie and asked Brian and he just did a sly smirk amd that was it.

Yep I was there for that humiliation and walked away thinking no way someone makes that many mistakes in a 10 min period - it was sus a fuck.
You're 100% right he wasn't a bad player and he was killing it that year for us so it just didn't make sense and should have been investigated.

I'll never forget his length of the field against the Bears on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Parramatta Stadium. He made speedsters like Matt Seers & Brett Dallas look like snails.
Yeah I reckon there was something suss there for sure. He was a good player and there's no way that unless the NRL world was suspicious or there were whispers of a sting that he wouldn't have landed another gig. I know a few ex players that have told me that game was red hot in their opinion . And as I said Smithy's sister lives up the coast and I've bumped into Brian a couple of times and did ask him at Nat Young's cafe years ago about that game and Carige and he certainly gave me the impression he didn't believe the guy simply brain farted.
Must be an extra burn for Smithy since he brought him there from The Steelers with him.
"That's just part of the problem CE, do you want to lie on a bed of feathers or Camel Hair. There is a difference between a Pooper and a Pauper!
Do you know that its a fact that the Roosters give their players bigger Xmas presents than Santa…"

He was really great for us that year which made his performance in the last 10 of that GF qualifier all the more devastating.

He actually had a good season barr that brain explosion.
He was a good footballer unfortunately for him and all of us , he left his absolute worst for the 1 game before a GF
