NATHAN HINDMARSH says the woeful manner of Parramatta's loss to Cronulla has finally shocked them into realising they could not expect their brilliant form of late last season to flow into this year.''I wasn't embarrassed about getting beaten by Cronulla, because they're not a s--t side,'' Hindmarsh told the Herald yesterday. ''They've got some quality players. But I was embarrassed about the way we played - we all were.''We didn't give ourselves a chance to win. We played some really dumb football, lazy football. It's taken that game to snap us out of our slumber. I can tell we have because of the way the guys are talking and the way we've trained this week. It's sharper, and a lot more focused.''People say, 'Why didn't you do it in round one?' but sometimes it's not that simple. We hoped there would be a natural follow-on from last year, but what we did last year was remarkable, and we've been naive to think it would just keep happening. It doesn't work that way in the NRL. Teams change, game plans change, and you've got to adjust.''Parramatta had been written off as finals chances by the time they made their spectacular run last year. They won seven of their last eight regular-season games to qualify for the finals in eighth place, and then won three straight games to get to the grand final. Melbourne beat them in the big one, but bookmakers subsequently put the Eels up as favourites for 2010.Hindmarsh said opposition teams had struggled to adjust on-the-run to the style of play Parramatta were employing last year, but had done their homework in time for this season. ''Other teams have had a good four or five months to think about us,'' he said. ''They know what the Eels can do, and they're better prepared to play us than they were last year. There isn't anything scientific about what we've got to do to adjust to that - we've just got to put in more effort.''It's taken four rounds, but the penny has dropped. Instead of waiting for things to happen, we have to work harder to make things happen. We've been hoping for things to happen, and now we've got to knuckle down before things get out of hand.''We're only four rounds in and it's a 26-round competition, so there's a long way to go, but we don't want to rely on having to make the sort of run we made last year. We talked about the importance of making a good start, but it didn't happen, so now we've got to work harder. We haven't got our act together yet, but I do emphasise the word yet.''The Eels will have plenty of time to sort through their issues between the debacle against the Sharks last Saturday and their next assignment against Canberra at Parramatta Stadium on Monday night. Eels coach Daniel Anderson may have the public image of a hard man, but he is also clever and Hindmarsh says the players have the utmost faith in his ability to steer them to success.''He's a lot different to that image,'' Hindmarsh said. ''He'll give us a spray if we deserve it, like all coaches do, but you only do that on game day. He's about encouraging the team, and helping us find the way. He's been terrific this week.''The Eels look a stronger line-up than the Raiders, but ''on paper'' factors have meant little for Parramatta so far this season. They aren't travelling any better than Canberra, with each team having had one win and three losses.Hindmarsh cannot guarantee a win over the Green Machine, but when asked what he could promise Parramatta's frustrated fans, he replied: ''A better performance. We'll work a lot harder and play much better football.''http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/no-time-for-complacency-as-eels-vow-to-lift-before-its-too-late-20100408-rv4k.html

  • Like Hindy said "A BETTER PEFORMANCE" is all we can ask for..

The competition is 26 rounds not 4?? Things will gel and when they do.... Look out every team
  • Not getting my hopes up just yet
  • They all have had 3 days off training this week - so i am not sure how hard they have worked after the lose to the sharks!!

    Fingers crossed for Monday night!!
  • DONT QUIT just support your team through good and bad
maybe the team would be more enthusiastic if even though they are not winning we still cheered the shit out of them the whole way through

lets win 2010 and they need us to do it
    • Do you think?
I have cheered and cheered for 32 years now and they haven't won a comp in 24 years. I'm not sure my effort is reflected in their performance.
  • Look, If we win then these are the advantages that helped us :

    1.Canberra playing away.
    2.Hindys '' Better Preformance ''
3.DA's 1-1 chats with most of the players.

and many more things .. There is probably no reason why we will lose this game and if we do I will literally cry.
