Can someone please explain to me why there is so much hype surrounding Murray and Humble??? Personally I don't see it. I honestly think that Tim Smith is our best option.

  • In the case of Tom Humble, he was a revelation for the Northern Pride during his time up there, and he showed that he has the ability to play in both the five-eighth and halfback roles.
He has a cool head, a great footy brain, and he knows when to kick, and when to run the ball.
He's only young, but he knows exactly what sort of play to execute on given possessions.

Murray, I can't comment much on as I haven't seen a lot of him, but judging by what I've heard from others, he had a stellar year in the NYC with the Roosters, and he has a kicking game, something which we lacked last year.
The only negative point people raised about him was his running game.

Tim Smith for mine still hasn't done anything that has definitively made me say 'We need him back'. At least not yet.
Maybe if he can get a regular starting gig next year alongside Graham in the halves for the Sharks, it can be re-assessed then.
  • Tim Smith! ha!
I think Graham Murray coming out of retirement is a better option then Tim smith.
    So there! :P
  • Thanks Ricky. I guess he needs time to adapt to NRL as what I saw last year was solid but not spectacular. As for Murray, the guy is untried and that makes me think that those fans who are excited are actually hoping that he will be the one.
  • Parra-matters, what do you have against Tim Smith?
  • No worries Andy.
I find it a bit strange that the Eels and Wenty seem to be grooming Humble as a fullback, though he did play in the halves towards the back-end of the season, but there's no denying that the kid has talent and potential, and he's probably one of the few young halves from Wenty/NYC mold that could make a successful transition to the NRL.
Even Sterlo has give the kid wraps on his performances, so he definitely has what it takes.

    He is yes.
He's only ever been NYC material given that's all he has played, but I guess he's impressed many fans and quite possibly even SK, hence all the euphoria surrounding him and a possible starting berth for him.
    • Got to agree with your "wondering" about putting Humble at FB Ricky.

The rare appearances he made in 1st grade he had shocking games at FB imo.
When he played in the halves he was much more effective.
I would not mind seeing him given more of an opportunity in 1st grade to show us what he can do.

What is it with the FB and 5/8 positions?
Screams for Hayne to go to 6 and now a guy who is showing great potential at 6 being pushed back to FB.

      Wierd !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      • That is true.
I guess these days, the fullback and five-eighth are seen as similar in some ways these days.

I've been impressed with Humble based on what we've seen of him in the halves, and I really hope that he gets the chance to showcase it in the NRL at some stage.
      • Does anyone remember Hayne's poor start to 2009? He was at 6, when he moved to one he's form began to improve and thus the teams. We all know what that culminated in. Besides he doesnt want to play at 6.
  • The number 7's we have at the club next year, as in whether they are NYC, reserve-grade or first-grade players, are Cameron Bruest, Marmin Barba, Jeff Robson, Tom Humble, Brad Murray, and so on.
We've got a lot of variety, but really none of those options are much better than the others.

If we get Orford than we won't have to worry, at least for a year or two. The most talented of the other players is easily Marmin Barba, but he is 18. The most viable of the current options is Jeff Robson.
You have to have a proven first-grade, no matter their talent, in the halves; you can't have two rookies paired together. That's why getting Orford to lead the team and also mentor Mortimer is what we definitely need.

If we retain some of these players long term - I believe Bruest, Barba, and Humble are the best options (if I had to pick three) - then we will be set in the halves for the future, at least hopefully. Again though, talent means nothing if you can't cut it in first-grade.
