Refs

Is the NRL ever going to do anything about the referees? This is not a Parra whinge but a whinge in general. Every game there is 1 or several howlers that just make your guts turn. Watching the Broncos play the Dragons right now (pretty boring game hence I'm on here at the same time) and if I'm reading this right the ref took posession from the Dragons and gave the ball to the Broncos because he blew the whistle on the back of no infringemnent so advantage went to the Broncos?? Seriously?? Dragons just had 1 ref yelling play on yet got pulled back because they passed the ball as the other ref was yelling held??

I know they are under more scrutiny and pressure than ever, but they've dead set brought it on themselves anyway. I can't think of any decent ref in the comp!! Tony Archer (apparent number 1) included.

As I said, not necesarily a Parra whinge but it happens to us and every team  (what about the Sharks try/no try) every single week it seems.  Is everyone else as sick to death of it as me.

  • Yep...very sick of it. It just doesn't seem like the referees are up to the same standard as they were in the past. I'm not saying that every time the supporters blame the ref they are actually in the wrong but gee there have been a lot of wrong/iffy decisions that have decided the results of games this season.
    • what about last night S3B? didnt pomeroy or somebody score in the last 10 second buyt some bull about him being held up, even though his ball carrying arm never hit the ground till the try line?
    • Why would Finch piss off?? he's got the 2nd easiest job in Australia behind the Petrol Commissioner. Big $ for zero improvement in performance and zero accountability. The refs (and their boss apparently) are protected more than a golden bell frog at the Olympic Park!!!
  • Yes, there were a few calls that went against us but this was the most ridiculous. The ref penalised him for double movement (while standing) because he had called held but really if it wasn't a try the Tigers should have been penalised as a third player came in to tackle him after he had called held.

The three reasonable options would have been to:
    1. Award a try
    2. Penalise the Tigers for coming in after the tackle was complete; or
    3. Let Pommeroy play the ball.

But no, the referee decides it is a penalty against Cronulla.AND we get marched an extra 10 for not being happy about it.

    Hmmmmppphhh!!!
  • Awwww..thanks Perfecta.
  • JD you have opened Pandora's box for me
I love the current ref stocks MORE passionately than Sinbad loves his "love child" little Burty Burt.
Don't worry 1Eyed Sinbad and I are on the same page on many things so this is tongue in cheek shot at him.

Generally you will see at least one try in almost EVERY game scored from a forward pass that blind Freddy would pick up on.
Strip penalties when ball is dropped and knock on called when ball is stripped.
I have said for the last two years that you can normally pick the winner in any game by the refs decisions in the first 20minutes of the game.
Unfortunately I am invariably being proven correct.
Video refs that DO NOT look at all the available angles from tv cameras award / disallow tries at crucial points in the game.
Eg - Folau last week against roosters - Reddy last night - Pomeroy as mentioned and the list is never ending.
No penalties for moving off the mark - most players when getting up will step forward over a tackler in the hope to get a penalty when in fact they should be getting penalised.
Greg Hartley said a few weeks ago that the current stocks are the worst for the past 50 years and he was absolutely correct.

The major problem is the acceptance of the current abysmal standards by the NRL
If a coach or player says anything against the referees then they are slapped with a massive fine but NOTHING is done about the referees.
Last year (I think) the dogs were robbed of a victory by one of the most monumental blunders a ref could ever make.
Result - Sorry dogs the ref did make a terrible decision but the results will stand and you don't get the 2 points.
Remedy - The ref went back to lower grades for 2 weeks. The same ref was appointed for finals games.

It really does make you ask - will the eventual winner of the premiership get there because they won or because the ref won the game for them?
  • Mate - same page and in capital letters.
If I were to attempt to list all the wrong decisions the refs made in the games I watched over this weekend I would have taken up at least 3 pages.
Bet we get the same again tomorrow night.
  • i agree totally mate all game they were slaughtering us in the ruck illegally 99% of the penaltys they gave away because of that and the warning dosnt c ome until 15 mins to go? give me a break they have no brains.

and that coat hanger on benny is 100% sin bin he had hindy beside him with noone in front
