I like how the 6 again rule keeps the game flowing but i do find it confusing/frustrating. 6 again will be called but no one knows why, some rucks look to be ok and get called and other look like a definate 6 again should be called but never happens. Last nights game we got a few but were first tackle, melbournes seemed to be later in the tackle count giving them more of a roll on, maybe we need to be more disciplined?. I find its easier for a ref to give certain sides an advantage as no one seems to question 6 again rulings. What s everyone thoughts on this?

I thnk Arthur needs to blow up more about it tbh. He has been given the chance to at a few pressers in the past few weeks and has declined to say anything. Squeaky wheel and all that.
The 6 again rule is the perfect situation for the refs to rig a game without ANY questions asked, or review of how they handle it.
Last week I think it was 10 to 1 for Panthers - this week we got TWO inside our own 20 while Storm got a 6 again on just about every second set they played. Does anyone have the actual stats please?
6 again is a failure from the point of having a fair game but "makes the game faster and more entertaining"
Go back to old system of blowing a penalty with the Captain's Challenge retained.
Have I ever explained my "conspiracy" theory about the Betting Agencies running the game brissy?
The house always wins.
i like the six again rule but i think it needs work. i think it should only come into play in the attacking fifty.
every single captian in the nrl would much prefer a kick out of trouble from their own half than a six again, especially when most six agains are blown on the first or second tackle.
When in your own 40m and no momentum, first - third tackle should be a penalty to give better field possession whilst 4th tackle should be set restart. Once in the oposition half, any ruck infringement should be a six again no matter what tackle count.
Thankfully some of the younger generation are seeing the FOLLY of todays version of Rugby League - keep this statement handy when doing your analysis and everything will beome clearer
RL REWARDS MINOR MISTAKES BY OVERPENALISING THE OFFENDER - the net result is that teams that play with the most discipline usually have a conservative approach (done well) at the DETRIMENT of spontaniety & risk taking
Every other Sport in the World REWARDS spontaniety & risk taking as this provides a far better product to the consumer
Your case about the 6 again rule is another example of over punishment,
Being able to kick into touch when a penalty is awarded is ANOTHER overpunishment - back in the 5m rule days the game was not as easy as todays game in terms of EASY yards - Get a penalty, kick into touch, with the mind numbing 10m rule only forcing MEATHEADS to do do endless hitups (instead of passing the ball) - you can easily expect to make anywhere from 50 to 80 meters (if awarded a penalty in your own half) if awarded a penalty for a MINOR infraction
The rewards are so obvious into todays yawnathon - why wouldn't you take the easy yards with tempo and try to FORCE a mistake instead of using SKILL to bamboozel your opponenent
If you get awarded a couple of penalties in quck succession your team should be coming away with points - the demands of the easy meters era puts the defense under too much pressure
Today you rarely see frantic passing movements in early tackles and in the early stages of a game - only when the clock is against a lsing side, then finally they are FORCED to play the passing game
Let's also understand the Rugby League is at it's GREATEST when the ball is moving through the hands. The modern game has done NOTHING to encourage players & coaches to be spontaneous and to take risks
The modern game has too much emphasis on OVERPUNISHMENT, gone are the days of the football wizards that used to wear the 6 and the ball playing forwards
The modern game hands todays players the easiest of tasks - too many times try's are scored through the kick instead of through the hands - as a try scored via a kick is esier to achieve than a sweeping ball playing movement - make th try's DIFFERENT values - TRYS through kicks should be 3 points and try's run over the libe are worth 6 with a kick to come
But that kind of positive thinking would never occur to the administrators
Want to re-start the tackle count AT ANY TIME - do a kick and chase - the kicker regathers the chip - tackle count starts again - now you have to have a joker / spy / cover defender at all times because of the threat - what does that do - one less man in the line - this will encourage teams to exploit a numerical advantage and pass the footy on early tackles
There is a shitload more I could go on about - but today, I dont give a damn - I no longer watch League - I will come back again whe the essence of the game REWARDS passing the footy - that's why we used to have scrums, so that when you made a mistake you had a chance to get the ball back - so instead of scrums, a team making a mistake passing the footy (knock on say) the defending team gets a fast 4 tackles instead of 6 - once again FORCING them to be enterprising or at the very least, get a clearing kick away so the opponent starts again from inside their own half - this measure encourages teams to pass the ball because they will not be over punished
As long as there is NO reward for enterprising play the HIT UP, THE KICK and mind numbing penalties in the tackle will continue to DOMINATE this once GREAT GAME
tl;dr
I love being an Olde Fart who understands what the REAL game was all about.
