  • Warner must be sacked. He’s hopeless.

    • I would be inclined to only pick him in Australia. Horses for courses, same as the bowlers. Trouble is we are a bit slim for openers at the moment.

      • Joe Burns says hi. Although, he is struggling with chronic fatigue syndrome. I still think Warner can get the job done. He did have 12 months off like Smith, but he's not God tier level like Smith. Obviously struggling to get back into the groove. The question here is, if Australia wins this Test, thereby retaining the Ashes, what's the point in dropping him for the fifth Test? He'll be selected for the Australian summer.

There seems to be a weird fascination amongst Australian supporters at the moment to just drop a player because of a lean series. Warner is behind only Smith in terms of career average and hundreds. His replacement would be one of Khawaja (already dropped), Bancroft (already dropped), Renshaw (not even in the squad). So who are you picking there?

        • Yeah I know. That's why he is still in the team and will probably stay there. I think Warner's problems are more to do with concentration. You could see last night that Smith and Labuchagne had to really work to keep their wicket intact until conditions eased a bit. Warner seems to get distracted and plays at balls he should be leaving. The way he got out yesterday was case in point. He certainly is very talented but we just don't seem to be getting the best out of him.

  • Steve Smith to another rescue. Labuschagne looking great too. We've finally found another class batsman by the looks of it.

  • If Warner is to remain in the Australian team, he has to bat a lot lower in the order. As mentioned in an earlier post, he's a flat track bully who simply can't handle the new ball in English conditions. His stats are woeful and I can't believe they left Khawaja out for this bum.

    • Khawaja didn't do much better. Both of them have been woeful this series. Warner's averaging 11 and Khawaja, 20.

And Khawaja wasn't left out for Warner, he was left out for Smith.

      • Khawaja's modest average is mostly due to giving his wicket away after making a start. Warner is failing to even make a start. In my opinion Khawaja has a superior technique and his issues are related to concentration, not the conditions.

  • Smudge did not only pull off another rescue job but has put us in a commanding position to win the game nd retain the Ashes. Great knocks too from Marnus (sensation), Paine (finally) and entertainment from Starc.

We are witnessing one of the greats of the game in his prime. Savour the moments guys. God usually breaks the mould with players like Smith.

  • Just name it already the Steve "The Greatest Before and Since Bradman" Smith Trophy.

He was forehanding balls to the boundary. I was expecting a backhand but probably has saved that for the Oval.
