  • I just want to put a plug in for The Swarm membership. We're really trying to get Bay 63 going as an "active support" bay.

If you prefer to go to the footy and stand and yell, this is the place to be!

    • Let's hope people buy into the idea. If all those individuals who had banners brought them along and sat in that bay, it'd look tremendous. Just need to get the word out to people

    • On the Swarm, perhaps there needs to be a group, page, twitter handle, instagram account etc etc for it? If it's going to take off it needs some publicity and advertising. Maybe some photos/videos next year from Round 1 of the area, the flags, banners etc to show what it's all about? Happy to help out with that sort of thing if you/those heading it require it. I've seen this on other major fan groups e.g. The Burrow & Kennel and it seems to really get more people involved and excited.

  • That's what we've been trying to iterate from the get-go, that we'd like the bay to be one that can cater and allow for cheering, chants, yelling, etc.
But either no-one pays attention or whatever.

And that is annoying. Particularly at the start of this season, we had so many away supporters sitting in the upper rows of the Swarm Bay - those usually designated and allocated for members - that were double booked by Ticketek and there was mass confusion and irritation from some of our own and those other fans/people that had those tickets.

  • That's a brilliant idea, TK.

Some of us had entertained that thought previously, it was just about the logistics and time constraints among us that has perhaps prevented it.
But yeah, that's a really good idea.
I might create a Twitter handle to begin with, given I have wider reach there than I do on Facebook.

    • Ricky, can I just add that it's great to see your input here. There's much respect for your thoughts on this site with people understanding your passion and dedication as a fan.
      • Thanks, Sixties, I appreciate that from yourself and from all.

I'd like to think that my passion and dedication is on the same level as anyone else's.

  • The difference this year is the club is actively getting behind it. I had a meeting with Daniel and Jake from the membership team a few months ago, and I really stressed this point to them, that they had to facilitate it happening by getting the seating right. There needs to be a few rows where we sit that no matter what aren't sold to anyway. And the other thing is to make clear to people that if you sit in that Bay you are going to have people yelling stuff out and waving flags in your face. If you prefer to sit and have a cup of tea during the game, find another bay. So I'm really stoked that they are being very clear that this is the intent of Bay 63.

    • Indeed, Phil.
I've had similar discussions with the membership staff, so their enthusiasm about it all heading into next year is great to see.

  • I think an emphasis on people with flags and banners getting in that area is important. If this gets promoted enough through the media platforms it can take off. If it is just a new membership category it relies on people reading it and looking into themselves. And with new categories added each year a lot of people wouldn't bother. Noise & Colour need to be emphasised as much as possible!
