It's been noted this has been the best start in a season for us in defence since 1993. We finished 11th that year, so what happened? I don't remember much other than winning very tight games but then getting thrashed a number of times (don't mention the Canberra game). Are we in danger of something similar happening this year? So far the Eels remind me of the Dragons from last year. They were resilient in defence but poor with the ball in the early rounds before spiraling down due to burnout. Whilst I don't think this will happen to us, I do realise that burnout will be impossible to avoid if we continue to win on defence.
Just as an aside, the Tigers game on Monday looked bad but I think Foran was spot on with his assessment. There was just no rhythm. Too many penalties and errors from both sides. There was no flow to the game which led to a very disjointed attack.

i think Foran was also spot on when he noted they were a bit flat coming off 3 massive games in a row. Think about it they played the runners of from last year, the premiers and then the doggies who made the finals.
Thats no mean feat and its without a doubt mentally draining. So to be honest, i think they've done extremely well considering how tough the opening month.
lets hope they don't burn out
If memory serves me correctly, we won our first three games in 93. Round four was a massive turn out at Parra when we played the Dragons. The dragons won and it just went downhill from there for the rest of the year.
Good point Wayne, there were times were players were ridiculously offside. The refs allowed it to happen early, and the precedent was set.
Raiders were unbelievable back in those days, not so mighty anymore.
They would have won the comp that year if that didnt happen. They were minor premiers if I remember correctly.
