The Broncos have just announced a profit of $3.77 million for the 2016 season. With turnover of $40m they are one of the biggest sporting franchises in the country.
They are also due to announce 2 new sponsors as well as renewing their NRMA sponsorship for a further 3 years.
Despite objecting loudly to the NRL every time another Brisbane based club is considered, the sponsorship deals are expected to reach $16m in the coming year. This is a figure most other clubs can only dream about but is proof positive that another Brisbane club is well overdue.

it's not just about the size of the market, it's the saturation of actual fans already established. adelaide and nt for example are afl towns. the commercial return is obviously far greater with a 2nd brisbane team. there's this misconception that another team = less crowds/fans for broncos, that's just not true....true competition brings out improvements across the market. only the incumbent protecting the monopoly will tell you otherwise, eg telstra
If the super league war achieved anything its that it proved that states outside of NSW and Qld are just not interested in league.
Couldn't agree more! When you consider the Third Party Agreements, cost of housing in Brisbane (vs Sydney) and the favourable media treatment, you realise that we are looking at structural inequity within the very fabric of the NRL. Brisbane could/should easily have another 2/3 teams to divide up all of the above and make it at least comparable to the rest of the league..
Most progressive organizations would strike whilst the fire is hot and ride the wave, unfortunately whilst Toad is on charge its a headless chook.
In the interim the A league is looking at adding at least 4 new teams soon.
As I recently said, the NRL will soon whither and die on the vine if it doesn't pull its head out - there are only so many fans and corporate dollars out there.
