Robson the man at No.7 as Eels bench Moimoi

Daniel Anderson has explained his selection thinking to the SMH

On Kris Keating vs Jeff Robson:

''I spoke to Kris about it,'' Anderson said. ''He played very well in the trials, but Daniel and Jarryd didn't play much in the trials, so Kris isn't very familiar with them while Jeff is, from last year. We'll see how things go as the season continues.

''Kris was one of the starting halves before he got injured last year, and I've got great faith in his ability, so I would expect him to bid for the starting halfback position. Jeff did well for us last year, and Kris has got the ability to challenge. There are no definites. I'm going to let it play out.''

On Fuifui on the bench:

''It was a very difficult decision,'' Anderson said. '' Fui would be disappointed. He wants to be in the starting 13. But we'll see how that one plays out over the course of the year as well. I'm sure Fui will play his usual, very provocative style when he comes off the bench against the Dragons.''

  • yeah... imagine if fui got even more fired up and pissed he isnt starting.. maybe thats what anderson is hoping for!
  • Jeez the Dragons look outgunned up front. I mean they have matt prior starting at prop.

I eyed do you much about the dragons bench forwards?
  • No Bluengold was saying one of them has come out of the NYC side last year and is pretty good - saffy and hunt go fine but they definitely miss Poore.
  • I actually think the more interesting aspect is how many minutes each of them play. If Fui plays a bit wider I reckon DA can get 50 to 60 minutes out of him. But then Poore and Cayless can both play lots of minutes too.

I've been thinking about it and I keep coming back to my original idea of playing three props. Doesn't matter who has number 12 on their back but I'd start with Poore, Fuifui, Cayless and leave Ben Smith on the bench. I'd let Fui go hell for leather for 15 minutes, pull him off and put Smith on. I'd then have him back on for for the last 10-15 minutes and play him wider as an attacking weapon.

It's not like in that first 15 minutes many teams overly try to move the ball around so the lessened mobility wouldn't be that much of a factor IMO and for a prop Cayless is pretty mobile.
