Though his deal ends when he is 19, wish it was an extra year til 2029. EA i know loves him as a prospect.
Why not so him till his 23, if he's that good? Would cost you nothing to do it now, if he's that good by the time he's 19 Roosters and co will be all over him and it will cost us double.
Well that's a dumb comment. Firstly a player needs to agree to it, agents are smart, they wont hold their client to what would be a 6 year deal when by the time he is 20 his price can go up and again when he is 23.
Secondly a player can be a nice talent but doesn't mean he works out. If he doesn't, you have an average player for 2-3 years more than what you want. Cost us nothing? It costs a top 30 spot if he doesn't work.
He is 17. I said 2029 as that means he would be 20, which is the age where they come into NRL
Or thirdly could be gun and let him go. In his words he expects to be playing first grade within two years.
Every kid in HM and SG Ball thinks they're debuting at 18 or 19, that's elite athlete confidence, but it's not a roster strategy. If they do not think so, then maybe they are not great to have as their confidence and/or competitiveness is not there.
The physical step up in the middle is huge. Look at Ryda Talagi debuting this Sunday at 19, that's proof the club will promote them when ready, but it's the exception, not the rule. Not many 19 year olds are playung in the NRL, nonetheless debuting at 19.
A 2027-28 deal gets Hayden through to 18/19. If he's kicking the door down like Ryda, Parra upgrades him. If not, you haven't tied up cap space through 2031 on blind faith. If we signed him like you said til he is 23, so that is 2032, what if come 2029 he is not very good or had a lot of injuries? You will be here complaining saying "Why did we sign him so long".
I myself think it would be smarter to sign him til 2029, when he turns 20, but that's what they agreed to, so be it. I wish it was like our deals with Koina and Petrus. Both signed til 2028, they are both 21. That is a nice age to determine if they are worth investing in further.
