  • RIP Tommy. A great character of the game.

  • I remember around 1977/78 Parts were to play Western Suburbs. Caroline Jones had a small segment on Rugby League on the ABC on Friday mornings, and she interviewed Graham Murray and another Parts player ( I can't remember who it was.

Caroline suggested to GM that Tommy was pretty tough and asked if he was concerned.  GM joked and said something like, "gee I hope he dosen't hurt me".

Well - Tommy belted GM from pillar to post that game.

  • I remember around 1977/78 Parra were to play Western Suburbs. Caroline Jones had a small segment on Rugby League on the ABC on Friday mornings. She interviewed Graham Murray and another Parra player about the upcoming game.

"Try to complete the sets and avoid dumb and lazy penalties and 6 agains. Team should stay calm and trust their defensive lines. No one should play hero and come out of the defensive line which Kelly did several times. Control the things that they…"

"Agree, Alfred (good to see you around).
If JAC is out, hopefully Samrani is in.
In the trial against the Roosters, the energy Joash brought on late in the game around the middle looked really dangerous. I'd love to see him used around tired forwards…"

"Lol i love how you say don't pick players out of position but putting Walker at 9. If Walker is to play 9 Ryles would have done it last year to spell Smith but he didn't he chose Hopgood instead at times.
Joash is more than fine to cover short…"

"It shows a pretty direct correlation between set restarts & scorelines.
Which is nothing new really:
Possession / field position / points = fatigue / scoreboard pressure / stupid risks / errors for oppositions.
The NRL just found a new way to…"

"Need to focus on hanging onto the ball, especially after long periods of being under the pump.
Paulo, your job is to run straight and hard, win the contact before even thinking of an offload....... YOU ARE NOT A BALL PLAYER !

Hell On Eels replied to EA's discussion Take Aways from the game
"Daniel Mortimer,
Restarts are worse than penalities as there is no break in the clock, and no time to reset the defensive line, creating a vicious cycle of momentum and fatigue.
Actually, for most of the Storm v Eels game errors were equal.
Errors…"

"Rubbish.  Have a look at the lopsideed scores the whole round.  Manly had 11 mins straight of possession before Canberra got the ball.  The NRL has called for this type of officiating and many teams were not ready for it.  If you put teams under…"

Hell On Eels replied to Hell On Eels's discussion Kemp: Eels vs Storm R1 refereeing was "Disgraceful"
"TolEllts, Great point. Once momentum kept going against us, we just had no answers. We lost our way. The ref was never going to let us win that game, but we could've avoided that huge blowout. And not get bullied as much.
We kicked for 66m in the…"

"Iamnot, spot on. Manly get 4-straight restarts. Lead 14-0. Then, Raiders get 5-straight restarts. They come back 14-12. Must be just pure co-incidence it keeps happening...

"HOE - interesting that after blowing the pea out of the whistle for 48 mins (one set restart every 5 mins), there was only one blown in the last 32 minutes of the game. You can't tell me that players all of a sudden became ultra-disciplined. "

"Could easily get rid of the kick for touch option on a penalty. Make it so that the only options are a tap restart or a kick for goal."
