The Economy.

I have just watched the news covering the virus world wide. One expert said we haven,t got to the peak of the damage the virus has caused and that there are very real chances that the vaccine may mutant to another variant which will not be controlled by these vaccines.Six months ago Economists and Governments were predicting the possibility of an extended recession. No body seems to be talking Depression right now. I don,t think Governments may be reluctant to dish out anymore big stimulus packages anymore. Property prices where I live are going through the roof. People are selling at these high prices and can,t buy a replacement property because the demand is so high.Is anyone out there have any optimism. Where do you think we are headed. Are we living in a pretend reality in Australia that things will get better?

  • No matter what happens we have to remain positive and focussed. Storms come and go but we have to rise above the storms like the eagle and to do that is to remain positive and not be controlled by emotions which lead to all types of negativities. There is nothing new under the sun! Doubt destroys but Faith keeps us going.

    • yes Monts .I think we are lucky so far in Aus.. Watching SBS you get a fair bit of exposure to what is happening in UK, Europe, and USA.It's not pretty particularly if you are on the health response in the front line. One nurse probably in her 50,s said she saw more deaths in the last 2 weeks than she had in her whole career. They say they haven,t hit the peak yet. Will it get to a stage where they simply will not be able to treat anyone anymore and have to walk away from even trying? This is going to cause a lot of damage to people's lives and secondly the economy. which will add to economic damage to people's lives as well..I am puzzled why we haven,t heard people talking about Depression anymore when they were talking along those lines 6 months ago..

  • We will be fine, housing has gone ok. Govt. are the ones taking too much power and control. The PM needs to sort them out and relax the rules. Covid is here for a long time and we cannot change this, we need to live with it and move on. Life will not end.....yet.

    • I am not sure what you mean Mitchy---"Govt is taking too much power and control"

      • Sorry Tad, it was late for me...I meant the Govt has taken too many liberties with restrictions etc. I think housing will sort itself out BUT this will be curtailed if and when govt allow international flights back in (I.e. Chinese etc, buying up houses forcing costs high).

We will need to live with this virus for a while until the vaccine works / doesn't. Lockdowns can only work if we have tight border control on international flights, hence we should not need many lockdowns if the borders are well controlled.

        • Yes Mitchy --we had it under control and were okay until International borders were not properly handled I am quite amazed at how so many people have responded to testing, masks and lockdowns etc so well despite our relatively low numbers. I think Sweden are now starting to look at  controlling the virus differently as well

          • Couldn't agree more Tad. Ive been tested a few times as precaution. Had to trim the nasel hairs!!.

Yes the Swedes are somewhat liberal but have done ok I think in the COVID situation. Some nice looking Swedes i seem to recall on those adverts years ago! Females I mean.

            • Mitchy, I'm terrified of the nasal swab. It's kind of irrational I know. I'm hoping to scrape through until a vaccine having avoided a nasal swab!

What are the ladies saying about your nose-scaping?

In other news, here is your daily feed of attractive Swedish women

              https://medium.com/@parkwallie/top-10-beautiful-swedish-women-b5c10...

            • On the contrary, the Swedes are not doing well at all. Their plan for herd immunity has not worked and their hospitals are being overrun.

          • Tad, Sweden's "light touch" approach to COVID-19 is now considered a failure. The King admitted so in his end of year review, Sweden's economy is no better than its Nordic neighbors, and it's death rate is now 10 times higher than its Nordic neighbors, and the Gov't quietly shifted the chief architect of the herd immunity strategy out of his position.
PS: I've got a decent barometer of all this, as several mates are Swedish and they defended the light touch but now don't!

Cobbo is a talent for sure but I have a suspicion he's to big for the modern day fullback and doesn't have the cardio…"

"How? The kid has never played 6 other than Tonga U18's. Pretty much every good Fullback has skills that can translate to 6, Tedesco looks like it, Pap has those elements too. If you have a good pass on you and can run those are skills needed for a…"

"As much as I would love to see Cobbo at Parra, I wouldn't be moving Iongi from the fullback role to accommodate him.
Also, if we can get Galvin from next year, I can't see any reason why we wouldn't regardless of who his manager is.
I see a…"

"I'd be sticking with Iongi at FB and Galvin for 5/8. We all know his manager is ruthless, and it's clearly just a ploy to get him it of his final contract year.
I'd have Cobbo on the wing, but I prefer Iongi at FB because of his ball playing ability."
