Norm Proven

Sad that Norm Proven has passed away. My condolences to all concerned. Norm coached the Eels for one year--forget which year. He did well considering the roster he took over-- many A-grade junior standard types. As I recall he just missed the finals. I was down watching them training one night and Norm was telling the team how to tackle! In those days there were generally only two in the tackle. Norm said the first one in goes low and the second in goes high ( to lock up the ball) I thought fancy a first-grade coach having to tell his players something so obvious. Such was the standard of some. By the way, three in a tackle only came the norm after Ricky Stuart introduced it the year he coached East to win the premiership. Now four in the tackle is not unusual.

  • Hope Cleary and co feel like the fuckwits that they are. One of the last things he'd have seen in his life was a bunch of fuckheads carrying his figurine around the Goldy in a baby carrier .

"mmmmm okay can I ask a simple question.
If the Eels wanted to upgrade their current squad as of today, would Russell be in your top 3 to replace with someone better."

"His defence was great, it was actually an amazing part of his game this year. I think most people were just rightly frustrated by blowing quite a few opportunities by not getting the ball to JAC in time with his slow hands.
I'd still prefer Russell…"

"He is a defensive Centre who fed JAC well this year. He will never be world class but he is FG standard. Teams have won comps with defensive Centres in the past."

"Sean Russell is similar to Tom Opacic for us and other defensive Centre's in the NRL. He had an incredible year considering he hardly played Centre prior to this season. The way he shut out opposing Centres, Kotoni Staggs the biggest one. Plus, he…"

"Yeah / Nah, I suspect most pundits have been spot on with his skill levels to date. The ball has always been in his court and he has been afforded every single opportunity to excel.
An honest depth player, that sees too much time in first grade if…"

Hes improved so much and you need players like him in a squad you cant have elite players in all positions
But if the bears throw big coin he should take it"

ANY MORE SIGNINGS???

I've been frustrated recently about the work we have been doing in the open market. Jonah's alright for a year and JDB is solid but he's getting old. I feel we need more in the forwards and some a replacement outside back. All I have seen is links…
