Norm Proven

Sad that Norm Proven has passed away. My condolences to all concerned. Norm coached the Eels for one year--forget which year. He did well considering the roster he took over-- many A-grade junior standard types. As I recall he just missed the finals. I was down watching them training one night and Norm was telling the team how to tackle! In those days there were generally only two in the tackle. Norm said the first one in goes low and the second in goes high ( to lock up the ball) I thought fancy a first-grade coach having to tell his players something so obvious. Such was the standard of some. By the way, three in a tackle only came the norm after Ricky Stuart introduced it the year he coached East to win the premiership. Now four in the tackle is not unusual.

  • Hope Cleary and co feel like the fuckwits that they are. One of the last things he'd have seen in his life was a bunch of fuckheads carrying his figurine around the Goldy in a baby carrier .

"Yeah don't really have much confidence in parra playing a full 80 minutes, that's the main issue. They play well in patches but that's not enough in nrl."

"Oates is supposed to replace Arthur's but is also carrying an injury and no guarantee to play.
Dolphins still flogged us with half their team out so doesn't really fill you with too much confidence "

"Reynolds being out helps a bit, they can't torture whoever the fullback is with his kicking game. But I agree broncos still a very strong side. "

"Where Parra need the push is in there juniors the next 2 years edges outside backs and front rowers they'll be the key mix that with shrewd player pickups in 26 when we have the cap.
Then you make your decisions on Gutho RCG Matto and alike."

"2026 we could have a good war chest to use, by then too the salary cap will start to level out as it has gone up the last few years so players upgrades have been covered by the increase. Once the increases stagnate teams will start losing more…"

Michael Ericson replied to Seraph's discussion Injuries and age - who makes the cut?
"Gutho has been our most consistent player for ages and is the heart and soul of the side. He's almost the opposite of a Hayne. He's a 7.5 or 8 player out of ten who gives you that every single week. Hayne could be a 10 but could also turn in regular…"

If not Bennett, then who?

So while i lay around not feeling well on a cold and wet Sunday, i thought if not Bennett than who would be the right person to take us forward? Many would say "Anyone" and that would be a very reactionary decision based on the hatred of the current…
