Norm Proven

Sad that Norm Proven has passed away. My condolences to all concerned. Norm coached the Eels for one year--forget which year. He did well considering the roster he took over-- many A-grade junior standard types. As I recall he just missed the finals. I was down watching them training one night and Norm was telling the team how to tackle! In those days there were generally only two in the tackle. Norm said the first one in goes low and the second in goes high ( to lock up the ball) I thought fancy a first-grade coach having to tell his players something so obvious. Such was the standard of some. By the way, three in a tackle only came the norm after Ricky Stuart introduced it the year he coached East to win the premiership. Now four in the tackle is not unusual.

  • Hope Cleary and co feel like the fuckwits that they are. One of the last things he'd have seen in his life was a bunch of fuckheads carrying his figurine around the Goldy in a baby carrier .

"No harm in asking and seeing what his goals are. What would he consider. Have a starting offer and get him keen and keep negotiating. Does Captaincy interest him enough? Does playing a spine position?

"Well he would be going rate for top notch Wingers. Around the $500-650k range. Maybe pushing $700k since he has played Origin and is named in Game II squad."

"In that case, i myself just cannot pay that much for a Centre. I would overpay, but hitting $1.5mil even for a Centre? That breaks your cap when you have to pay spine players. Unless you move him to Fullback, but we know that ain't happening with…"
