Jarryd Hayne wins his appeal

Its been reported today that Jarryd has finally been successful in appealing his rae conviction.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   This will not be widely accepted by those in the media but I for one remains very pleased with this overdue decision.

  • I'm with you Rich Haynes no angel but while there's a pub and bottle shop on every corner people will always get trouble. Years in jail doesn't fit the crime . Maybe I'm missing something

    • My take was the media set out to paint him guilty and did so with relish. They won't be pleased with this Appeals outcome, for sure, lets see how they report on him now.

  • I'm stoked.

But, where to now? Will be yet another trial? Does he still have a criminal record? Will the NRL have the kahunas to treat him like a human being now (if not publicly, discreetly)?

Geez. Hayne's case is an encyclopaedia of lessons for young men - especially in what not to do.

    • Hi Hoe, I read where another trial is very unlikely. It seems like this will be the final word on the case. If it is its exoneration for Hayne at last. That being the case, the NRL would have to treat him as an innocent man and make him visible again. Hayne didnt help his case by appearing "aloof" in his trials and boy did the Media go after him for that. But Hayne has always looked like that and will never change his demeanour. In any case I'm glad for him.

      • Richard, thanks mate.

Big wig, Justice SC, Deborah Sweeney concluded: "My own assessment of the quality and sufficiency of the evidence, I have a reasonable doubt that the applicant committed the offences charged."

Seems she's on the same page as many of us.

I've got no idea where this all puts him in the legal maze though. We need a lawyer here. I read a fourth trial is more likely than not. Would it not be an embarrassent for the DPP if they gave up, wouldn't it?

  • Go Doctor

  • Sign him up I'd say. He'd still be miles quicker than the backline Brad Arthur left us with!! 🤣🤣🤣

  • Really hope this is the end of it for him.

    honestly enough is enough!

    • hi macy, its in the hands of the DPP now and making there deliberations for another trial. In their weighing they would note that one of the grounds on which the appeal was granted was the disallowed evidence concerning the 'victims" conversation with a woman (she had never met) on Snap-Chat. During the chat which occoured before and after h  er encounter with Hayne at no time did she say it was non-consensual. This bit of evidence, if allowed, would have been very beneficial to Haynes defence. In the remote case a 4th trial was considered the DPP would realise this bit of evidence would be allowed this time and weigh heavily in Haynes favour and could bring about a Not Guilty verdict. Best save embarasment now and end the vaudeville.

      • Hope so Richard! He must of spent millions so far another trial would be ridiculous.

one thing I wonder, since two of the court cases were successfully appealed based on  judicial errors, can he sue for his legal costs on those? It doesn't seem fair he has had to fork out millions on top of everything else he has gone through.

Picking Up Where We Left Off?

Obviously, it’s only a trial. Other than reviving Henson Park, at best it's test of whether juniors' physicality is up to the task. We passed that test. Perhaps, there were symptoms of something else. We seemed to have picked up where we left off at…
