Family Superstitions.

My Mum had a few superstitions that she made us kids well aware of as we grew up. The regular ones- never put new shoes on the table,it's bad luck. More ones were- never open an umbrella inside the house. Never cross knives,it means an argument. If you drop a knife on the floor, don't pick it up,get someone else to do it,then tell them that they'll get a nice surprise on a particular day of the week, that you nominate. Same goes for scissors. If you were given knives,as a gift, you had to give the giver a few pennies. Of course, these days, pennies are long gone so if you're presented with knives,as a gift,I don't know what you do in that case. There are probably a few that I've forgotten over the years. Do any fellow Eelers have family superstitions that they'd like to share?

  • My elder sister used to dash about the house covering all the mirrors with  towels when there was a thunderstorm brewing. She said it would stop ball lightning reflecting off the mirrors and blowing up the house! The house never did blow up!

  • Spill salt throw a pinch over your left shoulder - not too sure why, but it had to be your left shoulder.

Don't walk under ladders = bad luck

Black cat crosses your path = bad luck

When talking about possible bad circumstances, knock on wood.

Always wear clean underwear in case you got hit by a bus. It was always a bus that was going to hit you, not a car or truck.

If giving (or receiving) a wallet or purse always put money in it for the future fortune of the recipient.

Forgotten more than I can remember.

  • Always have a pre game before heading to the game. It renders the mind cleared and focused.

    • This is a great idea because no one has a chance of getting a beer out of you at the game :)

      • LOL!! Mate, I have my ticket and I'm ready to go. You will definitely be buying me a beer this year ;).

        "Gate B, Aisle 214, Row 18, Seat 10"

I'll be calling out your name as soon as I round that turn to head up the stairs! See you soon champion  :)

Pass selection is also an attribute I haven't seen enough of it to suggest he'd be a 13.
I think he's a hooker throughand through."

"Good points, LB & Super.
When the time comes that we have to bite that bullet, hopefully one of them has proven themselves to be the elite choice - a good position to be in.
Currently, really like the way Ryles is using them both.

"I think most, if not all Hookers want to be 80min or the main man. Da Silva at least would want to be starting at least. If Smith is, then he might look at PNG for example.
We can keep both, Da Silva is contracted til 2029, so if he wants to kick…"

"Is the current NRL ruck simply too fast for an 80 minute hooker? If you say "yes" then it's obvious a Smith/TDS combo is a good idea: a high work rate machine followed by a creative.
