Family Superstitions.

My Mum had a few superstitions that she made us kids well aware of as we grew up. The regular ones- never put new shoes on the table,it's bad luck. More ones were- never open an umbrella inside the house. Never cross knives,it means an argument. If you drop a knife on the floor, don't pick it up,get someone else to do it,then tell them that they'll get a nice surprise on a particular day of the week, that you nominate. Same goes for scissors. If you were given knives,as a gift, you had to give the giver a few pennies. Of course, these days, pennies are long gone so if you're presented with knives,as a gift,I don't know what you do in that case. There are probably a few that I've forgotten over the years. Do any fellow Eelers have family superstitions that they'd like to share?

  • My elder sister used to dash about the house covering all the mirrors with  towels when there was a thunderstorm brewing. She said it would stop ball lightning reflecting off the mirrors and blowing up the house! The house never did blow up!

  • Spill salt throw a pinch over your left shoulder - not too sure why, but it had to be your left shoulder.

Don't walk under ladders = bad luck

Black cat crosses your path = bad luck

When talking about possible bad circumstances, knock on wood.

Always wear clean underwear in case you got hit by a bus. It was always a bus that was going to hit you, not a car or truck.

If giving (or receiving) a wallet or purse always put money in it for the future fortune of the recipient.

Forgotten more than I can remember.

  • Always have a pre game before heading to the game. It renders the mind cleared and focused.

    • This is a great idea because no one has a chance of getting a beer out of you at the game :)

      • LOL!! Mate, I have my ticket and I'm ready to go. You will definitely be buying me a beer this year ;).

        "Gate B, Aisle 214, Row 18, Seat 10"

I'll be calling out your name as soon as I round that turn to head up the stairs! See you soon champion  :)

"What makes either of them a failure? I'm after something more concrete than your opinion or that of some journalist. If you've got a set of performance criteria that they have failed to meet let's hear it."

"Yes we got him for a steal but it wasn't really my point. JAC is an elite rep player that's played origin and for Aus and he had an immediate impact on Russell. We have offloaded highly paid players and filtered through some good juniors and decent…"

"Adam, the proof is in the pudding.  We currently have a bottom rung roster. You can deflect all you want because Sarantinos and o'neill are both proven failures.
If you don't agree, please explain why Parramatta has a bottom 4 top 30"

"Just for clarification, I'm not taking aim at you or your comments. I'm saying that managing a playing roster isn't as easy as some suggest, there's a lot of moving pieces at any one time.
I wholeheartedly agree with your take on juniors, there's…"

"It is when the market is so competitive and you have a half that's in the latter part of his career and the kicker you've got nothing that looks like nrl quality in your outside back ranks.
We are so devoid there.I mean at one point way back when…"

"Right though the thing is paying close to a mil for a Centre is not smart cap management unless it is a once in a generation talent. Farnworth it is too much but also he is the best Centre in the world so it is easier to swallow.
At the same time,…"

"Couldn't agree with you more Coryn. Look at how much impact JAC had with Sean Russell. Not only someone like Herbie is a quality player on his own, he would unlock JAC but you could imagine the sort of impact he could have defending next to Lorenzo…"

"The only caveat to that is if he wants to stay in Sydney with a young family. For me we desperately need to sign Burton or Farnworth and I just don't care if we pay "overs". "
