  • May as well declare the off season open - we are done.

A few years ago I had a 2000 vx clubby with only 60 something thousand k's on the clock. The previous owner had done a stack of work to it. I bought it for $17k and had it for 3 years. Barely drove it in that time. Tidied up a few things that needed doing on it. I sold it just before covid and Holden pulling the pin for $25k and was pretty happy with that. I had a look on carsales about a year ago and what do you know there's my old clubby for sale for $69,000!!! It was up for about a week and the listing was removed so I'm assuming he sold it. Sorry mate it just had a LSD in it.

The first car I ever bought with my own money was a Mazda RX2 sedan. Had it for a few years and flogged the guts out of it. My goodness that car flew. You don't want to know how expensive rotaries are these days - like 6 figures or close to it - mental.

    • Oh I  know how much chook cookers are these days mate...  if we could only have back the cars we have sold Adza.  During COVID the prices went bezerk lol.  Holden prices  in particular were stupid  during the flu scam period, now there's a bunch of fools to refinanced their houses to buy toys at these prices trying to re-sell them cause they can't afford their interest rates . At the time silly boys and girls thought they'd just keep going up and up .

I do love a Vx Clubby . With all the reproduction retro looking wheels being made now in 20s and 22's you can make them look pretty awesome these days.  My kids are at that age they're getting a bit car mad and wanted me to get something again after many years of not having V8s .  I picked up a VE Calais 6L for a pretty good price and in pretty good shape body and interior wise , but am just overhauling the running gear to make it respectful. It's gotten a bit out of hand now 😂😂

    • A mate of mine had an RX3 Bridge port back in the day that would be worth a fortune today. All the old rotaries are selling for  silly money Rx2, 3 and 7. I thought about getting an RX8 a couple of years ago as they were still cheap (7-10k) thinking they would go off at some point as well. I think they have started to skyrocket now too as I believe they were the last rotary produced?

      • When my RX2 was starting to give me grief I went and looked at an RX3 coupe which a bloke nearby was selling. It had a 13B Bridgeport and was a lot quicker than my 12A. It had a bit of superficial rust in it but otherwise in good condition.

At that time I needed a reliable mode of transport and rotaries certainly weren't that. I ended up buying one of those Subaru liberty 4wd rs turbos.

      • Rx8 are dogshit , be glad you left it alone 😂.  I can't see them doing anything like the old rotors are doing now. Mybe I'm wrong , but they're just full of issues , and about as desirable as the RX5.  I actually think that movement has now gone towards Rotary swapping anything .  Obviously people have rotary swapped shit for decades , but now it's more popular than ever due to the prices of old Mazdas. I reckon ipopularity will slip past the RX8s due to even Mazda lovers hating them.

I always loved R100's , RX 2,3 and 7s . Never really liked RX4's for some reason even though I ended up owning one for a while. Just never liked their look.   Rx5 was an abortion.

    • I'm tool old to be worrying about a clutch. Been there done that , these days it's all about the KW's and stall converters for this old grandpa .

        • Let me rephrase that , I'm too lazy for a clutch these days .  Had a heap of manuals over the years and yes whilst lots more fun . I just couldn't be fucked . Supra sounds like a hoot .  What are you racing it in ?

  • No, but I'm looking forward to adding a torque splitter to the torque vectoring when the current RS3 is sold and the latest model RS3 comes home.

    • I've actually driven one of those , but only a hatchback. Had for a few weeks as a loany when the Mrs 4wd got hit as our insurance covers a like for like value type deal.  Was a fun car she didn't want to give it back. When the kids fuck off and get their own cars in a few years I reckon she'll be on the hunt for something like that.
