I'm amazed the eels ruby league team didn't sign him on your recommendation.
I came up with a blueprint to save country RL a couple of years ago, all it would take is some money outlaid to support it from the NRL.
1. Every team takes 1 game per year to a country town that has the facilities to support a NRL game.
2. The local 1st grade teams are an undercard to the big event.
3. After the local game the MOM and coaches are interviewed and a highlights package of the game is played between 2 ad breaks. So, a highlights package of the game, a quick interview with both coaches and the MOM for a 10 minute period or similar. Imagine what this would do for junior players striving to get to the top and knowing that they may get some air time if they can make 1st grade. The production crew would be there to cover the big game, so they could just do a rough coverage of the local game to get a highlights package.
4. There are many grounds already up to standard in rural areas ready to hold NRL games. Imagine the extra support from rural fans if they had their team play in their area.
5. After the NRL game, players could mingle with the local 1st grade players giving them training tips and advice in general even if it was for 10-20 minutes.
Country RL is dead as it stands right now.
