Christchurch attacks

In 2009 I had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful city of Christchurch. Despite the bitter cold I consider it to be the most charming city in NZ, and after the earthquakes of 2011 & 2016 it seems almost cruel that this beautiful part of the world would suffer in such a way.

I'd like all 1EE'ers to join me in sending their condolences and prayers to the people of Christchurch and all of NZ.

Be assured that whilst these appalling attacks were carried out in NZ, they are targeting all free peoples. The best defence is to continue to live free.

That is all.

  • Until people learn to respect the rights of others to live their life the way they want we are going to continue to have these attacks.

    • It is a beautiful city, a very English city. It reminds of the best parts of Toowoomba. Lots of cafes & eateries, parklands etc

Even the cold has a certain charm to it, unlike Wellington which really lives down to its nickname “Windy Wellington”.

  • First off my thoughts go out to all those that lost their lives to this madness.

I don’t condone any act of violence but tbh I am surprised that it took this long for a westerner to target the Islamic community. There was always bound to be a madmen amongst us.

Like I said I’m not condoning just expressing my surprise - I feel that the flood gates will now open on retaliatory attacks from the Islamic community imo.

    • more attacks than they already have been doing?

  • It was always going to happen . Are we all aware that this particular mosque is a known radical Islam hub ?

Don’t misunderstand my post as condoning this attack , I don’t in anyway condone the murder of the innocent people , especially children going about their lives , but let’s no beat around the bush here there has been a one sided attack on the West here and to be so shocked that someone retaliated is dumb .  I’m more concerned that the media is running around erasing stories about this mosques history .

Watching him assasinate children made me feel sick .

    • Well worded post mate - and a reply that I very much agree with.

I could write a 20,000 word post on the implications of this attack and what needs to be done on a macro scale to at least try and end the violence but I will refrain out of respect for the site.

I would say that I totally expect that there will be acts of retribution in New Zealand and probably Australia as well. Expect more innocent people to die. The cycle of violence will continue unfortunately and unless leaders make some strong decisions there is no hope that it will ever end.

    • Spot on Wiz.

Did you see Josh Moons, owner of kiwi farms reply to the NZ police request lol?

      • No I didn’t see it , is there a link or screen shot floating around ?

Krames, yes there will be retaliation 100% , I’m just interested to see which spin will be put on it . Will it be , “ so much for the thoughts and prayers Aussies sent “ or will it be the more likely “ Well , we had that coming”  , and more hashtags about not hurting the poor lady with the burqua on the bus ?

        • lol, I think we both know the answer to that mate :)

I will be interested to know what this bloke was subjected to during his travels in Europe. I have no idea, but I get the feeling that he may have, at some point, witnessed something (by "something" I mean an act of terrorism, such as the attacks in France) that has set him on this course. Obviously there is no excuse for this attrocity, but if authorities are fair dinkum they need to get to the root cause of what eventuated on Friday.

Of course, this won't happen, we will be drowned in meaningless political correctness and all will be forgotten - until it happens again, that is.
