Your Thoughts on the Future of the Site?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This site has never been the most endearing to the club or even parts of our own fanbase. A common piece of feedback I receive privately is that some find it too negative or drama-filled, which is why many choose to stay away. At times we clash hard and put each other down, the club, the players, and even Super, who pays for this site out of his own pocket. Some of this could understandably offend players’ families. In conversations I’ve had with people within the club’s hierarchy, the club takes a fairly open-minded view and accepts that it can’t control what others say or think. That’s a mature approach.

That said, I believe the majority of us are good eggs, mean well, even if some are rough around the edges and a small minority hold more extreme views. Over the past decade, I’ve met many wonderful people through this site, some of whom I now count as close friends and have learned a great deal from. You’re a big reason I’m still here and why I care about this community.

If you’re willing, I’d appreciate your thoughts on the direction the site should take. Ultimately, Super will decide, but it’s helpful to understand how people feel, here or privately, on:

  • Current affairs and political blogs: Even if personally enjoy them, these often become the most feral and attract extremist views, especially in challenging times. They can flood the site and turn off many who simply want to talk footy, the one thing we all share. Life has enough dramas.

  • Moving these blogs to The Cave: Making them members-only allows discussions without overwhelming those who’d want to avoid it. Could it be a win-win?

  • Any other ideas for improving the site.

Please don’t comment on political, religious or current affairs issues in this blog. This is about improving the site, not saving the world from an apocalypse.

          • All good points poppa, it was negligence on my part not conveying that BM's account on Brett is more assumption than known fact. Nonetheless, BM's, and therefore, your own post highlights the complicated mess this whole situation is.

The question begs asking, would we have peace if there were no religions?, it's seems the vast majority of conflicts throughout history are the result of differing religious beliefs, oh, and money of course.

            • Thanks HK,  you have always been a practical responder and we do think along common lines.

Questions such as no religion's is of course totally impractical. One of the points I have made in previous posts/blogs is that desperate people, like those identified by BM have no choice but to have "faith" they have nothing else.

In early days of my marriage I watched my wife's grandmother going to church every day. My immature reaction was, what an old fool! Over the next few years I watched her in my disparaging fashion and then all of a sudden it dawned on me (its called growing up).

What dawned on me was the pleasure she got with her faith, forget the actual religion aspect, it was the need for faith.

Most of us don't have that need because our standard of living usually stops us crying out for a needs based "faith" Watch that change when a loved one is injured or diagnosed .....faith comes in very handy!

Personally I am a spiritist, so I have my faith away from religion , I work on Karma and reincarnation based on ever improved learning. In saying that I do believe in Jesus's teachings, whether he is a god or not is above my pay grade, so I will just stick with trying to do things as you would have done unto you.

          • People are absolutely entitled to their beliefs, and I respect that right up until they expect me to play along or use a Bible quote as proof of something.

If the God in your head tells you that another group, a group of sinners no less, needs to be thrown under the bus and you work towards this aim, is that Evil?

Brett was a proselytiser. Proselytisers are fair game

            • Does that mean a bit preachy ? I liked Brett we both loved the joves and when I got the shits with some comments I interpreted as mysogenist we DM d about it and talked about our own failed marriages .

But I agree the Hillsongy preachy shit was a bit much and my kids go to Catholic school I was brought up Catholic and I'm not anti religious at all - each to their own .

              • Yep....but nah, Brett was absolutely a mysogynist. His God gave him the dominions  over alls of the bitchs and he was happy to talk about it,...with biblical evidence no less

                • Never saw that Randy, I would be interested in Carlo's views on that, she had D&M's with him and I ask "did he come over as a mysognist?" Carlo takes shit off no one so I suspect she would be aware if he was.

The way he is being depicted I just never saw, I wonder if a medical stage may have effected him, he still comments on TCT and he knows his football and is not backward in expressing his views.

Proselytiser....interesting view and probably has application for many with a belief system they are attached to. After my mother left the catholic church after I was born, she became a Jehovah's Witness. i remember walking the streets as a 6 year old with my mother putting "watchtower" magazines in letter boxes.

A short period of time passed before we got over that.......I was an athiest by the time I was 12 an agnostic by 16 and a fcukwit between 17 and 21 like most adolescent males......we all change! LOL

                  • My mum ( a massively devout Catholic ) used to entertain the chats from jehovahs and take their watch towers lol

mb you came to our house 🤔😆😆😆

                    • Well we lived at Ermington in those days, was not far to Carlingford, I can vaguely remember Dundas as a stop over.....or maybe that was the drive in 11years later.

Now there's a story Dundas Drive In, some twists and turns there....my first car was a Volkswagon....Ah! the memories (mostly failures) LOL

PS Did Brett come over as a mysoginst?

                    • Yes at times but I think a lot was feelings around his ex

              • But as men really are superior to women , is it actually being a misogynist to mansplain to women why ?
