WTF? Junior Moimoi on Eels' salary cap

The trans-Tasman flight of a young New Zealand boy to watch his dad play rugby league will be counted against the Parramatta Eels' salary cap.The Eels paid for Parramatta prop Fuifui Moimoi's nine-year-old son, Sani, to travel from New Zealand as a surprise - but the National Rugby League has ordered the cost to be included under the club's salary cap.Parramatta chief executive Paul Osborne said the club will accept the decision, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.Sani, who lives with his mother in New Zealand, travelled over for Parramatta's home game against Penrith on August 28.The gesture was the idea of Eels chairman Roy Spagnolo, and received a lot of post-match publicity.A league spokesman said the Eels had been asked to show cause why the trip - valued at $A1500 ($NZ1897) for cap purposes - should not be included under the cap."The league said it had to be included under the cap, so we've accepted that and we'll move on," said the spokesman."The provision of airfares is a financial benefit - aside from the emotion of any individual circumstance that may arise, it has to be looked at in terms of the rules that apply to everyone."What a crock of frogshit.

  • I know, right? Apparently the flight was only worth like $139... but this dickhead auditer reckons it's worth $1500 toward the cap because of the effect it had on Fui... absolute joke.
    • I can kind of understand the thinking behind the decision, however, if the NRL want to get serious about rewarding the fans with a quality product; local juniors to follow at our respective clubs; the opportunity to appreciate loyal one-club players such as Nathan Hindmarsh; and not see a player exodus to France, Japan or the UK, this sort of myopic thinking has to change!!
  • what rubbish
  • haha wot a joke
  • No wonder players are leaving to earn REAL money in other country's or rival codes. How is the average NRL player meant to earn a decent crust if all this rubbish gets included in the cap!? Unreal!
    • This is a bloody joke!!!!! $1500 from NZ you wouldn't pay that much for first class. The auditor must be related to ARCHER!!!!!!
  • BULLSHITT!!!
  • wat a joke
