WOW, WE SHOULD HAVE LOST

I think I have just lost several years off my life watching that game.  Both teams were crap.  I feel for both coaching staff as the completions, passing, catching and last play options of both teams was Ron Massey Cup level (very poor).

Negatives:

Our lack of completions (23 from 37 - 62%) was on par with the diabolical Roosters game earlier in the year.  If we were playing any other team in the NRL we would have been towelled up with the lack of completions and very, very poor 5th tackle options and executions.  It didn't matter whether it was Norman, Moses or Gutherson as all three were crap on the 5th tackle.

As for poor old Bevan he has just highlighted his biggest weakness to the rest of the competition that he can't catch a competed cross kick and I lost count how many cross kicks you dropped or didn't win.  We may have to move him back to fullback in defence to hide him for the rest of the year?  Having two short backs in Jennings and Bevan defending next to each other was always going to be a weakness, but poor of Bevan nearly lost us the game.

I thought BA should have moved Bevan back to fullback in defence after halftime and not doing so was a very bad tactical decision.  Well, we all know what Bevan will be doing at training next week as he will be catching a couple hundred cross kicks next week!

Our general play passing was average and many passes were high above the shoulder, behind the inside shoulder or below the waist.  I thought King's passing from dummy half was overly slow and he slowed the game down too much in attack with his little runs.

Smith needs at least 40 minutes of game time and 16 minutes was the wrong move tonight.

Our lack of ability to clear the ruck in defence was unusually poor tonight.  Maybe the bye last week wasn't a good thing?

Our short kicking game was very poor.

Positives:

I thought Vave was very good in attack and his wrestle on the ground was also very good.

I thought Brown was strong again in both attack and defence.

Semi has a powerful game in attack.

Gutherson had a rocks and diamond game but the good things he did was very good.

I thought the support play of our spine when we made breaks was very good.

Our scrambling defence was pretty good tonight.

We won even though we were crap tonight.

  • We are a longer way than many think from clinching a finals spot. Looking at the draw both the Dragons and Panthers could finish on 32 points (posssibly more).

They play each other but on form both are capable of beating the rest of the sides they play.

30 points may not be enough esp with our for and against.

If we play like today, teams like Broncos, Titans, Dogs, Souths can beat us - and we don't make the 8.

Next week critical to show up.
    • 30 may not get us in ESP with our points diff. Cowboys will easily win at least 1 game and Many 2. Point is we have to lift. Got to be better than today and against Dogs.
    • This week is this week and next week is next week. What u are failing to recognize is that they find a way to win
    • You could be right.  Gutherson has injured his knee and he has told others he thinks it is his medial ligament.

  • My blood pressure was through the roof
    Just imagine being a coach
    • I was the same, very hard to watch that one!

  • We've played better. Thought Moeroa was pretty good too. Kenny did the job we want him to do each week. And the man in black looked lively at the end. Hope king guthos ankle is ok
    • I thought Moeroa was very direct and strong in the middle.

  • Some good points there mate, that felt like the longest game ive ever watched lol

Id be putting Bevan in Wenty Dave, same thing ive thought all year, hes got too many weaknesses

    • Bevan will be at fullback next week as Gutherson has done his knee late in the game - it appears to be his medial, not sure if it is a strain or rupture?

Bevan to fullback and Hoffman to the right wing.
