The answer quite simply is NO

Parramatta Stadium has been somewhat of a fortress for the EELS and rival teams and supporters hate coming there. There would not have been more than 1000 Souths supporters there last night.

When we previously used to play Souths at ANZ we invariably lost the penalty count and the match. Why is it at Parra Stadium do we usually win the penalty count? Is it because we are more disciplined or is it because the refs are intimidated by the blue and gold army.

I have heard all the previous arguments that if you are good enough you can win anywhere. I also realise the finals will be at ANZ. However to get to the semi finals you need to get more competition points than 8 other sides.

By taking 2 matches a year away from Parra Stadium you risk losing 4 points. Remember last year our home match against the West Tigers on Easter Monday. Yes we had over 50000 spectators but lost the match controversially when William Hopoate had a try disallowed for apparent obstruction. On the Good Friday night John Sutton was similarly obstructed against the Bulldogs but their try was allowed despite criticism in the press.

Our board would much prefer to get the dollars from shifting matches rather than the 2 competition points that come with a win at Parra. We have a poor record at stadium much as Canberra, Newcastle,Townsville,Mount Smart. These clubs do not take away home games.

In most sports particularly European Soccer the home ground is an absolute MUST

The NRL can get the West Tigers home game against Parra played on Easter Monday if they want the fixture.

We definitely should get our home match against the Bulldogs returned to Parramatta. Forget about the behaviour of their supporters. That should not be our concern.  We could always build cages or holding cells for their supporters at the ground, (Even those on weekend leave from Silverwater)

Wake up Parra and return ALL our home matches to Parra Stadium if you want to amass sufficient points to be competitive .

  • I'm pretty sure this match is usually played at anz.
    • No Kerry, we would not have won that game at ANZ.  Our home crowd drove us home.

      What an atmosphere!

  • I don't see us winning that match if it was played at anz. Home ground bias by the refs and a much bigger souths crowed cheering them on would have been the difference. Eels fans were amazing last night urging the boys to keep going the whole 80 mins. I don't give a crap about what the nrl want or the extra money we make from taking games to anz. All home games, without exception, should be played at parra stadium. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • True Nonna just shows how unfairly we are usually treated...and that is fact not being one eyed on that haha.

Thought it was one of the most fairly adjudicated games last night for years...home or not.

    A pleasant surprise duly noted

  • no

  • It's like the refs wear the home team's jersey.

We got the rub of the green last night. I couldn't believe some of the calls.

    About bloody time!

At ANZ we would not have gotten some of those calls.

  • We would have been smashed 40-nil
  • I personally think the refs are piss week what they let us get away with at home they punish us for away I watch every game every week & the same pattern applies for most home games. Between their home team bias & continual mistakes they shouldn't get paid IMO
  • The 4 stadiums you mentioned above all belong to teams that do much more travelling than we do. They don't have access to another large stadium in their area unlike us. We also don't do well in Melbourne but for some odd reason don't do too badly at Suncorp...work that one out?
