For too long this club hasn't had a winning culture, and I firmly believe that it has to start with us - the fans. I believe that a big majority of our fans are happy to sit on the sidelines and wait out this drought until we eventually start winning. It's time to demand success. That is something us fans here at Parramatta do not do. How do you expect our players to instill a winning culture if our fans aren't even demanding it?

I constantly see on this forum, on twitter, faceook, and even in general conversation that fans don't even seem to care when we're losing. Some fans are band wagoners and will only support the team when we do well (2001 & 2009 season). There are a minority of fans who are screaming out for success but are constantly being drowned out by fans who have a mentality that "if dragons and souths could overcome their drought, then we will too, eventually). NO! Dragons and Souths made gradual improvements. There is no sign of improvements being made here at Parramatta. It's always 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

If you take what's happening here at Parramatta and compare the fan reactions to what would occur if this was to happen at big footballing clubs in Europe(sorry to make cross-code comparisons) but there will be riots. Why? Because the fans demand success. And what usually happens after that? The team comes through. The administration listen.

I saws some comments on the 'eelsforlife' facebook page that made me sick.So many fans just content with their team being crap, and hopeful that their team will come good. Here they are, tell me what you think? It's disgusting in my opinion:

- "Sure it's crap when the team you love is going bad but things turn around, always do. My point is stick with em because carrying on like a sook won't help"

-"31 year gap for The Dragons too 1979 then 2010 but f##k the rest Go The Eels"

-"we may not have won as many premierships as others but at least we try unlike some supporters"

WHAT IS THIS MENTALITY? AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT THINKS THIS IS RIDICULOUS? STOP DIMINISHING THE ABILITY AND POTENTIAL THAT THIS TEAM HAS. WHY ARE OUR OWN FANS BELITTLING THIS CLUB? WE ARE A POWERHOUSE. TIME TO ACT LIKE IT.

  • Did you hear Thurston after the Raiders game on the weekend? He was being asked about the incredible Cowboys winning streak. He said that winning is a habit, just as losing is also a habit - and that he's experienced both.

I think the Eels have gotten used to losing games and making a habit of not 'closing' those tight games and getting the result after 80 minutes.

    • Exactly right. That's what I'm trying to say. But this goes far beyond on field performances. There is no winning culture here at all, within the players, administration or the fans.

    • Well that starts with losing those players with that losing habit and
Signing players with a winning habit
      1. Sandow!! Thankgod he is going gone and gone!!!
      2. We need Foran to stop the rot!!
I cannot stress the vitality of importance that these two moves have !!!
Top4 team by just doing this simple move!! -sandow+Foran
    • gower power!
I feel for choc, what more could he do. I feel he is trying too hard which is causing his errors, whereas if he was playing in a team with guidance where hed just slip in nicely he'd do well....
      Thats why we need Foran!!!
    • The team has improved! We need to be consistent, being young can no longer be an excuse. We are on our way up!
  • How far back do you think it goes back? I see 2009 as a bit of a fluke... but how about 2001 and 2005? Did we have a winning culture at all during the 2000's?

    • 2009 was a fairytale. Let's not forget, we came 8th. Had no right to make the GF. Was Hayne magic.

2001 was a one off good season. We didn't do too well in the years before and after 2001. A consistent winning culture that we've seen recently from teams such as Manly and the Roosters hasn't been here since the 80's.

  • Do you think Choc is making any difference towards a 'winning culture' ?

    • Not when he is playing the way he is.

  • What sterlo said was very precise. Going forward, it is crucial that we sign Foran.
