Willis Meehan - Is he playing this weekend?

Willis has been with the club for a few weeks now but has not been listed to date to play his first game.  Additionally he has not been listed to play for Wenty ISP or RMC this weekend.

On a side note I also recently saw the photograph in the paper with Willis and I must say he has packed on the kegs.  The last time I saw and spoke to Willis he was around 15kg lighter (115kg) and now he looks closer to 130kg.

I hope he does start playing for Wenty ISP shortly because I think Wenty can make a late run for the semi's especially when Hoffman, Frank the Tank and Willis join the team.

Willis and Kane Evans next year is what we desperately need.

Does anybody know if Willis will be a late call up to the ISP or RMC teams this weekend?

  • I could be wrong but wasnt there talk a few weeks back he'd been told by the NRL he couldnt play first grade this year?

    Or has that changed?

    • That is right, but he can play for Wenty RMC and ISP but to date has not been listed to play for whatever reason.  I want to see him back playing and improving his fitness.  I would also like to see our Wenty teams make the semi's as well.

    • Definitely can't play first grade this year, that was a clause in the agreement of his return to the NRL. It is weird we only signed him for the remainder of the year, is there a clause in the contract in our favour? I hope we can him up for next year and beyond, as long as he is a reformed man.
  • Aaaah ok, not too sure at all Dave.

  • Not sure mate, but if he can get his act together it will be interesting to see how far he can go, if he can become a regular 1st grader?

  • We needed to sign him this year to complete his rehabilitation back into an NRL squad as he never completed this with Manly.  In short he needs to serve his time in the lower grades before the NRL will allow him to be selected for first grade for his past wrong doings.  If we signed him for next year he may have been stuck at Wenty for a good chunk of time, that is why he is with the club now.  Additionally, he needs to lose around 12-15kg and that will only ok if he is back training with the top squad and having a full off season.  In summary, he needs to complete his NRL exile punishment playing in the lower grades first.  Getting him back into a structure of hard training and playing footy this year will make his transition back into top line league a lot easier next year.

  • I think he may be injured cos he was in videos in the rehab team with frank,Hoffman and Pritchard
    • Hi Jack, thanks for that.  That would explain the reason for not being listed for Wenty.

  • Wont play 1st grade this year id suspect he's lacking match fitness he could well be a full-time trainer this season
  • There's a chance he may play this weekend if not I'd say the week after ..
