Hey Guys, I'm new to this but i have been following a few of the blogs and I have been hearing some stories about Parra being interested in Willie Mason. Can anyone bring me up to date on this please?

  • I must be watching a different game to those who say he can't play. At his best he has been devastating - had a poor year last year but was recovering from knee surgery.

A bit like Anasta in that the early wraps that he got left everyone wanting man of the match performances every game from him rather than solid outings.

Off the field he is a bit of a goose but has done nothing malicious. Of course you wouldn't sign him for 400k or whatever he was on at the Rorters but you would be foolish not to consider picking him up for a discounted amount.

Having said that Parra are probably won of the squads that need him the least, so I can't see it happening.
  • Instantly you can tell this is a rubbish rumour. Do you know how? Because we have no freaking money left in the cap!. Even if we had 50k available do you think Willie Mason would sign for that? Not a chance the bloke could make a mininum of 3x that overseas.

However If it were possible I would take Willie in an instant. The bloke is a talented Rugby League player, even if he is over his prime I think he would fit in perfectly at Parra.

People say he is a bad influence at clubs well I honestly believe he is a decent bloke who is just the life of the party and cops more blame than what he should. He's gone through a lot in his career and I think he would have learnt some valuable lessons in that time and now he has the ability to pass them on to younger players. I believe he would have a positive influence at the club not negative, I believe this is one of the main reasons Bellamy wanted him, and Bellamy has proven to be one of the best recruiters of players in the business.

Imo it is doubtful that Willie will find a contract in the NRL this year, however if he does he will have a massive point to prove and i reckon hes in for a big season
    • the rumour about Willie was on the back of Inu leaving for the warriors this year and freeing up $275K.
  • Can't sign Willie based on character.... BUT

I would have Willie in my team in a heartbeat based on his onfield peformances. The blues really need him.

I rate him very highly... he has a recent history of going quiet in big games but that is because he was wrongly played as a prop too often. He was great last year given he was coming back from a knee reconstruction.

Hope he 1. Stays in the NRL... 2. Keeps his mouth shut (as he has of late).
  • I can't see it but you have to admit this is a scarily talented pack!

    8. Fuifui Moimoi
    9. Matt keating
    10. Justin Poore
    11. Nathan Hindmarsh
    12. Willie Mason
    13. Feleti Mateo

And with a bench where you get to choose from the likes of Cayles, Shackleton, Smith and Mannah!
    • it is a strong pack, only 2 out of that 6 will be playing in blue in gold beyond 2012.
    • shane shacleton will be just as good as mason
  • Well if that is true we should not miss a goal all season but the travel to home games is gunna be a bitch
  • As for Mason, he was a good player and should be a good bargin for some team, but we don't need him, with the 2 new guys there is enough competion for the forward spots, with Cayless, MoiMoi, Mannah and Poore for front row and Hindmarsh, Mateo, Smith and Shackleton in the back row plus a host of players fighting to make first grade we don't need to spend the $2.50 we have left under the cap on Willie
  • mason is a cat so he should play for the tigers
