What are peoples thoughts?  In another blow to the NRL starting up,  It appears that the players are refusing to begin training on Monday, citing they havnt signed off on the pay deal or the conditions that they will be working under, even though V'landys has guaranteed they will be paid 80% of their annual income. ie if they are on a million they get $800,000 for the year. I must admit im begining to get tired with the players myself. I get the feeling with what some players have dished up in the last couple of weeks, signs of sheer arrogance. One gets the feeling they are acting like they are superior to fans and society as a whole. They can walk to a different beat or circumvent our laws and be given certain exemptions that we are not eligible for. I want my footy back ASAP , and i would love to see my favourite Eels players playing,  but now im sort of wondering if our world has turned upside down, when the NRL are the first to be considered back, given exemptions and travel passes, earn a living, see their mates etc, even before say my childs education is sorted out, or my familys jobs. I dont know what others think but I'm starting to get a bit pissed off especially knowing that they have been paid their full wages up till the end of May already. I would have thought they'd nearly be obligated to at least train if safe untill the end of May, having all ready received full wages till then.

Am i on my own, with begining to get a bit peed off.

  • I was very vocal at the start of the Covid outbreak for the league to continue playing, the longer this goes on it looks more and more likely these overpaid over pampered players are going to be responsible for their own demise. It would serve them right to sit the season out.

I think the selfish attitude of the players is quickly eroding what little goodwill the paying fans have left.

  • Yeah Steve, Selfish thats a good word. I dont want to be peed off, but i am starting to get that way with them.

  • At the start I was pissed at the people who thought that the players & the game didn’t deserve special treatment. But now after those 3 boofheads, all those that think they are hard done by. To the players that keep holding the game to ransom, well they can stick it up their a$&e. I was devastated when the game was stopped, but to hear them whinge & carry on, give us a break. At a funeral today only 10 of us can go. Friends & people here have lost their job. This game ain’t under Greenturd. It’s under new management and I’m sure he trying his best to be fair on all. But these players need to also do their bit, it’s for one year, one season. It’s is the hardest season in history, you win this year you deserve it.

  • Seriously i am keen on the game to continue, but if they choose not then they can live with it in my view. Other sports will kick off soon and no doubt see a rise in tv / pay tv ratings.....personally the break has allowed me to catch up on other shows.

  • What's the issue here? Is it the players suddenly wanting more than what was agreed to, or is it that the players actually don't know what they're going to be paid if the comp starts on May 28th? If it's the latter they have a point.

    • They still getting full pay for may whether season proceeded or still on , so they should not be boycotting anything .

personally I'm with a lot of other posters , the loyalty I once had for game and standing up for players is gone .  I'm sure all their support staff and coaches etc don't have full line of sight of exactly is going on , but don't hear from them about boycotting and crap.

if the other clowns hadn't broken iso rules , people may have been onside with them demanding what they are , but after what has come out this week it's a poo look

        • It's being aired publicly which is a terrible look, these discussions should be kept behind closed doors, especially in light of recent player indiscretions. There's plenty of time to hash out the details this is the wrong time for the players to be making public threats.

        • I understand what your saying Brissy, but for transparency and Acuracy, the players have been on full wages as per their contracts. They have all been paid till the end of May on full Salary, this was from the original preseason to the first two rounds and the six weeks they have been home with no games, this was agreed and organised by V'Landys when everything went pear shaped. From May till the end of October they will now receive just over 50% of their contract this when both are added together apparently gives them a full 80% of their yearly salary / contract.
Considrering a lot of us are prohibited from working and earning an income, some of us have had to close businesses, and attempt to collect job keeper allowance. Surely even you can understand people's growing frustrations with the players.

          • Its not a pissing contest of who is worse off. Everyone has the right to use whatever leverage they have at their disposal to achieve the ends they want to achieve, you included. The difference is the amount of leverage, the players have a lot more and they are using it, no apologies.

Bear in mind that a lot of these young guys are providing for extended families. For a lot of young players, the second they do after buying a house for themselves is to buy a house for their parents, if they don't already own one, and many don't.

Furthermore, its not just abour money. The real crux of the players concerns is over biosecurity, particularly for the Warriors players. They've got a charter flight booked to fly in on Sunday and the NRL still has yet to provide the players with what protocols they are going to have to abide by when they arrive. The Warriors have to go into a 14 day quarantine before they can start training, and once they leave NZ air space they are committed to being over here. The NRL promised the players they would have all these details finalised by Wednesday, and it hasn't happened.

This was the main concern the players had.

            • No it's not a pissing contest Brett your right, it's Life at the moment, and the way some players have acted, leads common mortals to start becoming frustrated with their antics. Plain and simple I thought, People don't have to agree with me that's why I asked the question. For mine I can't wait to see the Eels competing again but I'm also peed off with the way some of the NRL players  have acted during this pandemic.  And please spare me the "poor player" routine where everyone is looking after extended families and buying  them all houses, when small business owners are losing there's and mere mortals are prohibited from working and earning a dollar to support themselves.

Intelligent administrators, health officials, politicians, Border Force , Prime Ministers, police and state Premiers and Ministers not to mention Club officials are bending over backwards to get the NRL  special dispensations and exemptions to get up and running and the players use their what do you call it Leverage. Yeah real smart they were guaranteed 80% of their income to buy that second house you mention but they still wanted to not show up for work on Monday to get those so called bio security protocols in their 48 page document.

Nah not a pissing contest Brett, just life at the moment where real families have lost loved ones to  this virus, and when your close to that I think I'm allowed to state that I'm beginning to get a bit peed off with some of the players antics and behaviours.
