Will Smith Departs from Eels

Parramatta Eels utility Will Smith has found himself a new home for 2022, signing a two-year deal with the Gold Coast Titans.

The Eels would like to thank Will for all of his contributions to the club between 2017 & 2021. Will played in 54 games for the Blue & Gold scoring nine tries, six try assists, and captaining the team in our 2021 Round 25 clash against the Penrith Panthers

Eels GM Football Mark O Neill said

“We would like to thank Will for initially choosing the Eels and being a part of the squad for the past 5 years. We have enjoyed watching his continued development and his tremendous contribution made to the club. We wish Will, Kayla and their children Lexie and Rome all the best in 2022 and beyond”

Thank you Will!

  • Good luck Will at the Titans, hope you brain it

  • Thanks Will Goodluck at the Tits

    • I wish Will well as well.

I wonder just a little that he may have seen a wall emerge with JA seemingly having an inside run.

Carlo, tell me your not moving to the "goldy" are you? Lol

  • Will Smith was a fine young man who embodied the spirit of his namesake and grandfather "Bill Smith" a leader and a legend for the indigenous multitudes who were touched by his generous leadership for the hundreds of black and white men and women who benefited from Bill Smith's entreprennerial business skills and the employment he created in the railways environment.

I'm told, Will's love and service for the aboriginal community grew every year that he was at Parramatta. He has a passion to help young kids find a purpose and opportunity in life. It is a shame that he may have believed more strongly this last season, that he was just cannon fodder for the young JA, son of the coach. Yet Will Smith never complained publicly. He remained faithful even when BA's faith wavered during that period leading upto and then including the 4 losses which were, IMO the inevitable consequence of BA's actions.

Will has developed into a fine footballer, skilful in attack, strong in defence and tough when the going got tough. I will miss him!

    • You'd think he was a duel international , both QLD and NSW origin winning captain who'd beaten Billy Slater out of the Clive Churchill medal the way people are carrying on with these rumours. He'd be lucky to be much better than JA , neverlone "cannon fodder ".  Will Smith had years to prove his worth on the team and he never really lifted to any level above that fringe player.  We have better players coming through at minimum wage so it doesn't make sense to keep the guy on our books.

The fact he's aborgional doesn't mean shit, no idea why it keeps being brought up like it's some kind of reason to keep him. Blaming JA because a 5/10 players moved on is pretty shit.

  • Damn looks like we will lose both our captains
