Wick not registered yet - Salary Cap

The decision to keep Jarryd Hayne on the books at Parramatta could cost Danny Wicks the chance to make a return to the NRL.The governing body's integrity unit has given Wicks the green light to make a comeback after being jailed for dealing drugs. However, the NRL's salary cap auditor, Jamie L'Oste Brown, is yet to sign off on the deal, meaning Wicks remains an unregistered player.Fairfax Media can reveal that Hayne remains on the Eels' books despite the fact he has left the game in order to pursue his dream of making it in the NFL.It is believed the move was made to ensure that, should the Dally M medallist's quest fail, he cannot join a rival club in 2015. That would leave Parramatta as the only club he can play for this year if the NSW fullback could be squeezed into the club's salary cap. However, the club has more immediate salary cap pressures with flow-on effects for Wicks. While Hayne remains a part of the squad, albeit an unofficial one, the NRL has determined that Wicks will not be registered. The Eels are hopeful of resolving the impasse, given that Wicks is on a modest second-tier salary. But until it is resolved, one of the most unlikely comebacks in league history won't be rubber-stamped."Danny Wicks has been cleared to return from an integrity point of view, pending the compliance of special conditions in his playing contract," an NRL spokesperson said. The Eels have been impressed with Wicks' dedication since joining in the off-season and are keen to solve the issue as soon as possible so that he is eligible for the round one blockbuster against Manly. He began pre-season training with the club in November and has stripped down to 106 kilograms, nearly 25 kilograms lighter than his former playing weight."This is the opportunity that I needed and I want," Wicks said. "And I'm going to give Parramatta and Parramatta fans what I've got. I'm the fittest I've been. I'm excited … This is my last chance. It might only be my second chance, but this is my last chance and I'll make something of it."OThe former St George Illawarra and Newcastle Knights forward declared himself a changed person and said he had shed nearly a fifth of his body weight by giving up junk food and dedicating himself to training."It's just commitment," he said. "I was young and silly before, now I've got my head in the right spot; I've got a completely different outlook."http://smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/danny-wicks-not-yet-cleared-to-return-after-jail-stint-due-to-salary-cap-concerns-20150204-136bs4.html

  • This will be sorted soon Im sure of it, just sharing, even though from Smh so probably not 100% reliable anyway
    • Finally some sense on here!
We'll pointed out Daniel, it's in the papers so it probably isn't true.
  • Just like Manly chasing Brad Arthur to replace Tooves all over papers..... Then today they came out publicly supporting him and say that he will definitely be coach till at least end of 2016
  • If true how stupid are we(parra) keeping hayne on our books must mean we are paying him or it wouldn't affect our cap!
    • How stupid not too. Haynes 50/50 at best making it in the NFL. Why give chance to another club like the dogs or roosters to get him if he doesn't make it.
  • Yes Kramer I agree but it has been particularly bad this year but what is even worse it seems is that certain members on here take anything written in the papers as gospel.
As Daniel pointed out, the BA to Manly article was and is absolute rubbish and anyone with a brain could see this straight up but you drag up the blog and read some of the responses.
    Tragic stuff lol.
  • I doubt that Wicks is sticking around if he knows we cant afford him.

    • Hayne is still signed with us for 2015 as imo  the contract is still existing but the club has given him permission to leave. This is the same with many other players in the past, as with Benji Marshall, that were given permission to go elsewhere to another sport with existing contracts.

  • Load of shit!
  • Piss off SMH, must of been a slow day in the news room "let's make up more BS about parra"
