We have some great literate tech type guys on this site. I am having some major issues with my WiFi extender which is not performing that great. Can anyone recommend a good Wi Fi extender which can go through brick walls. I have a cheapish Tp Link extender which performance is pretty ordinary. It is a Powerline extender which I currently have..Any suggestions of what I should look at would be helpful.I don't trust Harvey Norman type sales men.

Do you have an option to run an Ethernet cable into a different room? If so, a wired mesh network is what you're after. If not possible to run Ethernet, a wireless mesh system would be your best bet. Google nest would be an example of wireless.
That has a brief explanation of what mesh WiFi is.
Thanks mate. Ethernet cable is not an option.

Tad, I used to have a TP Link wifi extender like what you describe. Best use for it is as a paperweight.
Basically you have two options:
1. A wifi mesh system.
2. A wired mesh system.
(Lol, and I just saw that Eel Team Six has written exactly the same above)
Option two is better as each access point is connected to your network via ethernet cable, the downside is that you have to run a cable to each access point location. If you are talking about brick walls, then this may be a difficult option.
The guy I work for and I both have Ubiquity gear. It's pricey, but good. Having said that there are plenty of options available off the shelf at the typical local retailers. Best just to do a bit of research so you understand what you are buying.
Thanks Meelk I don,t know much about mesh systems. I think I will have a look at them.. Finders is a great resource which I have used in the past
You could spend good money on a wireless mesh system or buy a quality wireless router.
I have a 7 bedroom 2 storey house and usually have 6 or 7 of us online at the same time and it never misses a beat.
I have the ASUS RT-AX82U. It has a range of roughly 190sqm and can comfortably have 30 devices running at once.
We have 6 phones, 5 tablets, 2 desktop computers, 3 laptops, 2 Xbox and 2 TV'S that all run through the one wireless router and have never had drop outs or lag.
This is the one I use and it's currently on special.

Haha Bem.I was speaking to a TPG guy about this and told him to give me a few minutes to go down stairs to the router. When I finally got to it he said " Gee that took a while.Do you live in a mansion.Very funny the way he said it. Lucky he didn't have to talk to you. " Hey mate do you live in a Castle?"
I wish it was a real castle Tad but like the old saying goes, a man's home is his castle.
I think Wizz is envious of you Bem
