Since this was written in 2019, it was a fair enough statement back then. However I was thinking about this the other day. Our CEO regularly talks about "fighting for a top 4 spot" every year. It's now time to update that statement to "being the best side in the NRL. The benchmark club by which all other NRL clubs are measured". It's a lofty statement for sure but this must now be the aim of the club. It means further evolution of our Football department. It means pursuing the very best in every aspect that can be managed. Fighting for a Top 4 is a decent goal when you're outside the 8 or not a genuine contender. For example it would be a decent goal for the Broncos right now. But it's an out of date goal for the Eels and I urge Jim to update his words around the topic of the goals for our NRL side.
"There's no upside to going to Melbourne and trying to fill those big shoes. Look at Man U since fergie retired. You're on an absolute hiding to nothing. If he takes us to the promised land he will be as revered as Jack Gibson"
"This has all played out way too quickly for PVL to have had much say. The only thing PVL has said so far is he would of liked to get a deal done. Things then went legal and PVL would not be able to make any public comment right now. He will wait for…"

Definitely a fair statement after coming off salary cap drama and a wooden spoon.
The opposite of this statement was the previous management saying we'd win 2 premierships by 2020.
Would you prefer unrealistic, political BS like that or a fair, measured and reasonable statement that is achievable.
As stated above, I hope the goal is now to become top 2 and be playing in Preliminary finals and GFs.
