Which way will the NRL go and what will be there decision with the investigation with Parramatta over the salary cap breaches…
The general consensus with the current investigation that is going on, which without a doubt is fuelled and endorsed by the unrelenting attacks by the media is that the Eels need to be punished and badly with a definite loss of competition points.
The big question is when will the investigation be completed, what will be the outcome and will we lose points? Unfortunately, I think the NRL decision will not come any time soon and there will be an anxious wait until the finals football is upon us.
The NRL are not naïve to see the good form that the Eels are showing on the park at the moment is something that they can capitalise on and they do want Parramatta to succeed as they are a drawcard and we have a very large supporter base that has not tasted finals football since 2009. By pinging us 4, 6 or 10+ points now will have a detrimental effect upon us not only firstly making the finals but player motivation in the games for the rest of the season as they will see it as what is the point of it if they cannot make the finals.
I think it will come down to the following two scenarios when the finals hit us;
- If we continue to win games , are high up on the ladder (or even lead the competition with points gap) the NRL can feel justified in their decision to waive their stick and hand down a 4 or 6 loss of points that will still mean we compete in the finals;
- The NRL throws the absolute book at us deducted 10 points, 20 points or the whole competition points for the year like what happened to Melbourne or the Bulldogs albeit different salary cap breaches. By waiting until the finals to announcing what they are going to do the NRL will be able to benefit and continue to ride the success of how good we have performed for the year up until that point. This undoubtedly, would be the hardest pill to take. If this was to happen the NRL would be coming from the aspect we are the supreme authority and what Parramatta have done is worth of maximum punishment and such similar actions will not be tolerated. Waiting for finals until announce this decision the NRL could also try and bank on the fact us supporters will forget how hard they have come down by seasons start next year instead of now and having us ride out the rest of this season knowing this year is a dead duck for us.
All I can say is if 2. above happens that the NRL is going to be so diligent with the review and anal probing of other clubs with the Salary Cap and TPA as they have done with us. If other instances are found and proven at other Clubs then they have set a precedent and will be forced into a corner that they have to hand down a similar punishment for any other Clubs that are in breach.
Time will tell..

But yeah , making us suffer all year waiting for an answer is unacceptable .
I don't think we should lose any points if we are not over this year
But........Other clubs may suggest that if we hadn't cheated the cap the last few years, even slightly, they may have finished higher up the ladder and played semis etc. it's too hard to make a fair and just punishment from a retrospective viewpoint.
Is there another club that's always in the news like Parra.
Life is never dull at Parra even when we are coming stone motherless last.
