Why we need to avoid resigning Ferguson regardless

Love the bloke and what hes done for the club. A 3 year deal offered to him at the time was generous but his body has expired.

His knees are shot which is why he runs out of the line to tackle strait and hard. His lateral movement is terrible. He doesnt have the knees to keep going in a faster and harder game. We would be paying alot of money to rehab this guy time and time again after he gets injured.

This problem sadly wont get better. Remember there was talk of him being medically retired. I dont think a magical cure has been created in the meantime.
Another quality front row forward is needed and id prefer Brad brings up one internally, start now and recruit for 2023,2034. We reap what we sow and Ferguson has tried his best to win us a premiership.

  • yep. Agree. Fergo's time is up

  • I don't think it's that grim to be honest. Fergo is still pretty reliable and wouldn't be commanding the same money and contract as we signed him for. Given he's not the game breaker he was, but I don't think it's all on him, it's just as much as the players around him.

My decision would be less about Fergo, and more around Haze and if he's ready for NRL week in, week out. If Haze is ready to go, then let's play him and start taking advantage of developing juniors. Having younger players on low salaries performing at a high level is one way to get ahead in your salary cap. Haze doesn't need to be a game breaker, he just needs to be defensively reliable.

I would be going with Haze and investing the savings in a more critical position or upgrading performing players like Ice or Cartwright.

  • I wouldn't offer him a 3 year deal, but I would offer him a 1+1 (club option). He still gives us tremendous impetus out of the back field.
    Experience matters.

      • Yeah he has errors in him, but according to NRL.com so does virtually every other fullback or winger.
In fact the only non outside back in the top 20 for errors is DCE.

      • I agree. He is slow now and looks old. He comes in off his line too leaving gaps, which is annoying. Time for some younger legs on the wing. I hope we don't sign Gagai. He only plays well for QLD, and would be 31 by the time he plays for us. I would like to think the  days of buying 30 plus players are over.

        • Jesus Pete, your never going to get in the nursing with that anti-old age stuff.

What about the Morris Bros, we could get them both cheap and Brett will probably be twice as quick with his rebuilt ACL .....I suppose we can't go after Benji now either Pete.....Semi is coming back when he is 35 ....will we take him then? Cooper Cronk who could not have touched  (too old) but he won two premierships when he went ove r the Hill......

I 'm not sure that loss of a decent parking spot was enough to send you senile Pete....LOL

PS I think the bargain hunting of old players maybe the thing of the future.... Karm Hunt being a 35 year old bargain for the Broncs, Reynold for the Sharks,  Gutherson will be a great pickup for another club when he turns 30.

      • I think you might be the arthritic goose to be fair.

              • Look at your first sentence and look at your last..... you constantly contradict yourself

"good heated debate" your quote dopey. ........what am I doing then sitting on an ice berg? you can't have it both ways Grunts, your becoming incoherent!..... keep up with the game you arthritic goose.

              • Monto Eel  - more than a bit of a CoC breach here.

Grunta is losing perspective of crossing the line re persoanl information etc. This comment should be deleted.
