WHY THE EELS MUST KEEP BURT

I believe it would be an insult to luke burt , cayless ,hindy and all the eels fans if the eels release luke burt ,He is simply too good to lose , he has been loyal to the club and the fans , he has been a role model who inspires kids and also young eels players. I find it would be a tragedy to let him go . I say he has 3 good seasons left , let him finish them as an eel and let him smash the try scoring record . He is a point scoring freak and has done more in 10 years than haynes done in the last few years.I say luke burt im behind you i hope you stay ,your comments please .......................................................

  • Totally agree, I think Luke had his best year this year and I wouldnt swap him for any other winger in the comp. Reward loyalty keep Luke at our club.
  • Maxforce, in my opinion players such as Cayless, Hindy and Burt should always have the option to see out their contracts, whether it means we lose other players or not.

Players like these guys do not come around anymore. In an environment where fans are livid when players walk out on their contract, we have 3 outstanding role models, not just for the team but for the community. They deserve respect and to finish their careers at Parra if that is what they want to do.

I love these three players. They are 3 of a kind and we do not see players like them in Rugby League anymore. Parramatta is their home and it should stay that way.
  • I have indicated in my other posts that for me, there are some things more important than winning a Premiereship. For me team loyalty is up there, as well as ensuring the unity and general well being of our team and having a positive atmosphere amongst our supporters. I recognise that I am probably the only person that holds this view!

There are very few men in the game like Hindy, Caylo and Luke Burt anymore, so I doubt that keeping these three men would be the single factor in causing our team to run last. Often players which remain at one club, have huge importance in mentoring the younger players, become leaders and essentially the backbone of the team. For me, getting rid of them would do more harm than good. I also think it would show tremendous disrespect after the loyal service which these men have given our club.

Further, these players are not dead wood. While they are not young men anymore, all of their seasons have been wonderful this year. They have been given a contract and they have the right to see it out.
  • I apologise if I came across harsh. I didn't mean to suggest that you called these players deadwood - I was more just suggesting that it is rare to find a player who has been at a club for as long as these men have, who does not form the backbone of the club. I think releasing these boys would do more harm than good.

Further, I am all for players moving on etc, but for players like Hindy, Burt and Caylo, it should be done on their terms. If they have a contract, they should be able to see it out.
  • Don't worry people, he isn't going anywhere
  • Sign Burt and let Hayne go, agreed.
  • Burt was playing great the latter half of this year.. he still seems t ohave a lot of go despite his "age" I cant see how anyone would want to lose our highest point scorer!
  • I dont believe people say at 28 he hasn't got much longer, crap, he is in career best form, he has easily 3 good years in him.
  • When we signed Tahu it was always going to be at the expense of someone. The problem is that no one else signed up Inu or Grothe (which seemed like a possibility) and Burt may pay for that despite being the best winger we have. One of these three will have to go elsewhere or play park football and they are all too good for that. I'm actually hoping that Inu finds another club, it will be best for all concerned.
  • I will be very dissapointed if we lose Luke. He is not just a great winger , clubman etc but he is our point scorer!! I know Inu can kick and I believe Kris Keating can kick as well but Burty is our cool hand luke!!
