I'm getting a bit confused as to why all the jurnos are saying JH to the roosters is 2017 because the eels don't have money in the cap to sign him.I'm not being stubborn or a smart ass so if someone actually knows what's going on I'd really love to know because Choc just retired freeing up 750k for each year for the next two years, Junior has left giving us 300k of his money back for 2017 and Peatsy has just left on 350k so between those 3 that's 1.4mil just there..... Not to mention we have close to 20 people off contract this year who majority of them aren't top 25 so wouldn't have to "replace" them just let them go and use their money.Like I said I'm not looking for a smart ass reply I'm just confused to why they jurnos are saying we have no money.Like Matty Johns said the eels have gone through the salary cap scandal and have come out the other side, that's now behind us.IMO I can't see how Parra have no money to spend in 2017.

  • Because Joe Hockey is doing the accounting for the NRL and can't tell the difference.
  • Miatch do you think it's fair to post a link that deducts $5 from your credit card just by clicking on it ?
  • Ok I'll go over it in depth for you next year eels are paying a portion of peats contract for the Gold Coast as part of the deal for them to take him this year for the full amount

Next Jennings full wage is on us next year which is s full 350k more than this year

Of the 20 off contact players only 3 are in our starting 17 ATM one of them is degois so most of those players fall outside our top 25 thus having no baring on the salary cap

Next we have to move in top 25 replacements for Paulo Peats and watmough next season and while they may not be as expensive they won't be minimum wagers

Then there is the Corey Norman upgrade of 200 - 300 k

That 1.4 mil figure you had quickly dwindle down to between 400 - 600 k that before considering the likelyhood of a player in our top 25 having a back ended increase written into his contract

That's why the media stated if we resigned Norman we ended our chance at hayne and also why BA says our cap is stuffed for next year
    • So , third party sponsors are banned from approaching our club now ? Nobody knows what the lead up to 2017 holds .
    • The first paragraph show how little idea you have. Peats was uncontracted for next year so how could we possibly be paying anything towards his deal at the Gold Coast? Get your hand off it.
    • Ahh I see ur all starting to realise I was right and that we don't have millions to spend hmmmmm?! I accept your apologies!!!
    • You're also not including Gordon's salary, probably $300k, when he retires next year plus Morgan's salary, say $200k, plus whatever the cap goes up by so that's another $500k.

  • Oh and with you saying just let go of the outside salary cap players and use there money think of it this way if you 25th highest payed player st the club is on 125k and he leave the 26th player is on 120k move in to take his spot however if you move a high payed player like hayne into the cap he goes to spot 1 or 2

Moving the rest of you squad down a spot in that top 25 list meaning that player on 120k no longer is in the top 25 and for him to play his wage will need to be added to the 2nd tier cap but that only gets added once he plays first grade not before

That's the idea of the cap you can't just pay someone 300k but not include them in your top 25 as the top 25 is essentially a list over your top 25 highest payed players from richest to poorest
    • But at this stage DAVE we don't have 25 players signed for next year.

If there is a desire by Hayne to return, where there is a will there will be a way......

  • That doesn't matter because you have to have a top 25 it is literally a requirement for every NRL team

"Only thing going for us to keep him is that it's his final year, and if he wants another big contract he needs to perform. Unfortunately we are fcuked. Cheers to the signing committee."
