Why don't we upgrade Semi's contract now?

We have a lot of cap space for next year so why don't we use some of it to upgrade Semi's contract? There is absolutely no doubt that BA would love to extend his contract despite all the dramas surrounding Semi at the moment. There is also no argument that Semi should be earning more than 250K a season (if indeed he has already been upgraded then someone please say so). It would be a sign of good faith if we upgraded it to a figure more reflective of his worth, especially given the uncertainty surrounding his court case. An upgrade could also be used as the starting point for extending his contract, a bit like enticing him with a sweetener. If Semi is unhappy as rumours suggest then we need to make him happy. We need to be proactive about this.

  • I suspect both parties are seeing how the case plays out. Its not impossible to think he has verbally commited to seeing out tge contract then testing the European waters.
  • I'm sure they are already in talks but it takes both parties to actually agree to the terms.
  • Dunno why he unhappy with his contract. No one forced him to sign. Put your big big pants on semi. If the shoe was on the other foot and he was playing less than his worth I doubt he'd be giving any money back. I wanna re-sign him but nothing to do with his current contract. Just extend with a new contact.
  • Parra shouldnt upgrade without an extension and thats what they have wanted to do all along. Whats the point of giving him extra money for no reason when he entered into a contract under no duress. Could have turned out bad for parra and they wouldnt be able to just get rid of him at no cost. Upgrade deserved but only if parra get some benefit out of it ie an etension.
  • I hope they offer him more but as said based on an extension.
  • I'm sure they will EWRA.....BA would be all over it...as long as Semi wants in.
  • If he isn't fully committed to the club then there is no point in upgrading his contract. That money would be better spent on players who are. I hope he re-signs and they put him on a contract worthy of his talent. He needs to move to centre though as the kind of money it will cost to retain him will be way too much for a winger.
    • Centres aren't any more important than wingers, they just make more tackles. Wingers, especially the main yardage winger in a team, make more runs than a centre. That makes them easily worth as much as a centre.
  • The club previously stated his 250K was going to be upgraded to around 375K for next year.
