If you look at the eels teams of the last decade there have been much fewer local juniors in the backs compared to the forwards .Other than Hayne and Inu the cupboard is almost bare. At the same time many forwards from the junior ranks have been developed. Is it a problem with coaching or talent identification?-An outstanding local junior who could play center would be very handy now.

Can you explain that a bit more outrunna?
Who is 'they'?
And theres plenty of room for skilled fast players, they just need to be able to handle their opposing man who is BIG fast and skillful, and the comp is full of big, skillfull and fast players.
Welcome to the site BB.
The reality is that our junior system imo is and basically always has been very over rated, and we have relied on them way to much, actually they have been a curse because we have put to much emphasis on them to the clubs detriment.
Its common knowledge we have been the worst recruiters in the comp the last 30 years, we relied on juniors to come through that we simply over rated, combine that with poor talent identification for many years and its fucked us.
We have not produced a junior 6 or 7 or any note IN THE LAST 30 YEARS
We have not produced a single prop of note in the same time, really apart from Hayne and Hindy our juniors have produced nothing more than average first graders, and we lost a few good ones too along the way.
Lets not forget that that the transition rates are very low too.
Im certain that if we had no juniors like the roosters that we would have been forced to buy a few decent teams over the years, we would have probably 3 or 4 comps in the last 30 years because we would have had to stop sitting on our asses doing nothing and relying on juniors.
BB what we need is a complete restructure of how things are done in regards to juniors, this has been taking place over the last few years, when i get a bit more time today i'll say a bit more, cheers
What about the Bronco's, they rely on juniors and have won 6 premierships.
RIP Lemmy!
Aside from Hayne n Burty, it's been really lean in that dept over the last years.
God knows how many times I've smacked the lounge and cussed, when the winger either watched them go past or fumbled, couldn't take a high ball etc etc.
Crikeys, remember when Hindy ran someone down in cover whilst the outside backs stood in stunned mullet position!
How hard can it be in all of the Parra district over the last quite a few years, to find someone to step up
The bloody shame was Sio (who I must admit was on the end of many a lounge smack) just hits his straps and we saw him go!
Maybe the younger junior players in our district with the necessary attributes are being out muscled?
To be honest Macy, Burt was just an honest first grader, thats why he never played rep footy of any note, hes the type of footy player that every club produces, the Sharks have produced 100 luke burts over the years and look how far its got them, he wouldnt cut it in todays game imo due to his size and defence, Newcastle thought all their christmas's came at once when they realised the team they were playing in the GF had luke burt in the defence line, and look what happened on the big day.
