why are nrl experts no better than monkeys?

Surely some expert knowledge would get you slightly better than random guessing. But together the NRL experts average slightly under 50% and the the leaders are not significantly above random noise. Is it that hard to tip the footy?

  • Yep, apparently it is hard to tip. Gambling odds would be a good benchmark on how hard or easy it is to pick winners. So far this season, out of 64 games, only 34 times has the winner been the favourite according to the odds. So just over 50%. That means that even the bookies, who would have the most sophisticated systems of all, are only getting it right just over 50% of the time.

    • Wow  - thanks MeelK, would have thought the bookies would be better than that

      • There is a method to my madness. There is money to be made from knowing things like this.

      • Mate this year I have had the worst tipping record ever. A problem is that due to loyalty I always pick the eels and will not tip against them

As such my average is 4 correct tips with the best 5 from 8, and several3's   Last season I pretty well had a 78% rating which included two perfect weekend tippings.

Ps, I walked out of the horses and pups game at half time, I picked the horses to win by one point, they won by 2 according to Foxsports. Hopefully that's a good sign for the W.E

  • If I wasn’t blue and gold through and through and used simply my knowledge of footy I would not tip parra.

Parra have won two in a row and are playing a team slightly down on troops. It’s your typical Parramatta recipe for disaster. In games we are tipped to win we get beat. I’d prefer sharks were at full strength. In these sort of games average nrl standard players like Joseph Paulo usually have blinders against us.

  • I stopped going in tipping comps when I realised I would be better off tipping randomly. The teams really are all quite even and there are no "givens" anymore.
  • Wtf is the point of this blog
    • Its a blog about tipping.

      • Sometimes even the most obvious things need to be explained...

  • To be truthful a couple of these tipsters had us finishing out of the 8 and I gave it to them in the begining of the season but they're currently on the money...
