The fact that this coming election is the most important in our history has been mentioned by many posters here. Do we vote for stability with Sharp et al or do we want a return to the dark ages of the Denis “The Emperor” Fitzgerald years? If the latter then be assured that a vote for Mark “Piggy” Riddell means a vote for Denis Fitzgerald.
From the outset I respect most of what Fitzgerald achieved in his time at the club. But he has had his day and it is time for new blood to take over and take the club forward from here.
It’s no secret Denis is great mates with Ray Hadley and Piggy works for Hadley on his 2GB program. So when putting his 2P faction together Denis no doubt took the advice of his mate to use a former NRL player to help his faction get the nod on election day.
But isn’t the notion of having a former player on the board adding value to a club getting outdated? Many fans – particularly from this club – are calling for more business acumen to be added to the board like the Roosters and Souffs. Crikey we already have two former players on the board in Geoff Gerrard and Steve Sharp so why the hell do we want any more?
Fans were keen to hear from Piggy as to what he could bring to the board. After all he said publically, “I look forward to the opportunity to engage with members and give back valuable service to the club.” But in response he has been most ungracious by blocking fans on twitter to find out what he stands for.
He doesn’t want to talk because he doesn’t know what to say. He has no vision, no plans for the future and he doesn’t love our club. He was recruited by Denis to help his 2P faction gain power this week because NRL players are popular with fans. Jamesy’s image of Piggy sitting on Denis’s lap like a ventriloquist dummy is apt. He will be nothing more than a mouthpiece for Denis and his tentacles will once again strangle future development of our club.
The Steve Sharp led board are making progress and are seeking reappointment on the basis of what they have achieved to date and planning for the future;
New coaching staff
New training facilities
New signings
Eels member council – so we fans can have a bigger say on things
Constitutional Reform Committee – So the rorts and shenanigans of past administrations are not repeated.
$100M leagues club precinct development
In the Steve Sharp YouTube video (that I was fortunately able to view before it went private) he makes the following strong points of difference to his opponents;
“You must respect our constitution; the laws that govern our industry and club, they are the things that protect members interests and the club. They are non-negotiables under my watch. Good governance is the cornerstone of being a club first organisation.”
That is something Denis and Piggy won’t bring to the table if they gain power.

Great work Jimmy, totally spot on.
Eh.... it's amazing how some people just love having power and control. We need people who are interested in the club and the greater good (like Eels succeeding and winning games)
